Burnt ends sandwich is amazing. Service was beyond excellent! The ladies there are 8/5 stars. Only downside is it’s really echoey so it’s hard to have a conversation without feeling like you’re yelling.

This is EASILY the best barbeque I've ever had. I don't think Gates can make bad food. Every single piece of meat in the box was immaculately seasoned, the pickled onions and pickles were DELICIOUS, abd the bread at the bottom sealed the deal for me. Since it was my first time, the staff helped me tremendously while ordering, and gave us extra sauce for the food. EVERY time I'm in KC, I will be eating here. I've already recommended Gates Bar-B-Q to every single person who goes near Kansas City, and I will not stop until Gates seasonings reach local grocery shelves out here on the east coast.

My partner and I are regulars and ordered food from Uber eats. The food my partner received had a piece of metal in it. We are still waiting to see if there was anything ingested. After calling the restaurant, because we are concerned if anyone else was affected, we were told that we would be accommodated but we were asked to bring the food back in order to be accommodated. My partner explained to staff that we don't own a vehicle and we'd be catching Uber. Staff insisted we come in to be accommodated. When we got to Gates, staff was rude. One staff member tried to offer us a redo on food, which we didn't want. We didn't feel safe to eat more food from this location after there was metal in the food. Staff scrambled around for a manager. The manager initially didn't come out directly, she sent staff to communicate. Staff informed us that the manager was working on a refund manually. After waiting 30 minutes, the manager said she couldn't manually give us our money back. We were told to call Uber and speak with someone again after my partner took photos and emailed a representative with Uber, prior to us getting to Gates. Uber was only able to credit some of the total and Gates gave money out of the register for the difference. Now here's my review... After someone has told you they found metal in their food from your restaurant, asking them to expend more labor and money to be "accommodated", really sounds like you don't believe the person is telling the truth. As a courtesy, we humored Gates by coming in, when we already have to deal with the possibility of ingesting metal. This is a food safety issue and there should have been an inspection of food products to ensure that no one else is in danger. They should have stopped serving food but the parking lot was full of cars and people inside still eating. If there was the slightest bit of irritation coming from us as customers, it's rightfully so because Gates made the mistake of allowing dangerous objects to fall into the food, not us. As a courtesy, we showed kindness where we didn't have to. A full refund should have been given in cash for the inconvenience of also having to come to Gates and spend extra money to not actually be accommodated. Upon leaving the restaurant we ran into some folks who also experienced having metal in their food. So, this isn't the first instance which is why inspections should also be more frequent.

Edit 8-7-2024 Went to the location on Emanuel Clever Boulevard and the difference between this location and the State Line location is night and day. Nicer restaurant, friendlier people and the quality of the food is considerably better than the Leawood location. I would recommend the ham nooner.

Keeping the two stars for the Leawood location review as follows: Ordered a beef on bun - lean. So much gristle on the meat I had to simply throw it out. It was terrible actually. This place used to be decent, not the best, but decent for lunch. Not so much anymore. Giving a two because of what once was.

I had a beef on the bun sandwich for my birthday . It was good by the way.

Parking: It depends on when you visit them. I noticed on Tuesdays that there not crowded to much. You can get your order and enjoy your meal.
