Green River is located just past downtown Kansas City, Missouri and almost seems isolated. This family owned Chinese restaurant has been in the area for years and has served the neighboring community for a very long time. After reading reviews on it I decided to try them. It was Christmas Eve and they were closing early, but took my order anyway. The service was ok. The owner and I had small talk and I could tell she was tired. She mentioned she had a host of relatives to prepare dinner for so she was overwhelmed. The ambiance didn't count because it was take-out only. Probably pre-Covid you could eat in. You can tell the place used to be a nice restaurant for dine-in, but not now. The area is closed off. Upon arriving home I found there was a boat-load of Combination Fried Rice drowning in soy sauce. The portion size was great, but too much sauce and virtually no shrimp...the egg rolls were great though. I'd probably return and have them go easy on the soy sauce and express they need some shrimp in the dish. The General Tso Chicken was asked not to be spicy, but ended up too spicy to eat so it was a total wash and waste of money. I'm not happy about that, at all!!! I don't v want to give them a bad wrap, but had to share my experience. Maybe others have had a different one??? I'll chalk it up to the holiday... My advice: don't go during this time.

It was takeout, made fresh and I had the sechzwan chicken, spicy and the chicken was not dry, perfect amount of the savory sauce ???

We didn't even get all the way in the front door. You walk in and it looks like an abandoned Chinese restaurant. No one at the front counter. Buffet is empty and looks like it hasn't been used in years. Didn't even smell like Chinese food. We turned around and walked out!

These are the best Chinese spots, local, mom and pop ran. The owners are Vietnamese and you can tell in some of the offerings their is that Southeast Asian twist that one knows if you eat the cuisine often. Prices and portions are very good, it's a to go only business and we will continue to go back. Get the General Tso's chicken, it's my favorite and a local favorite as well. They do close somewhat early so this is not a late night spot.

Green River Chinese Restaurant (Feb. 11, 2023)This is a very late afternoon take-out order. Found some good reviews, and decided to try out the place as it offers Egg Foo Young, which I want to try out from various parts of the country.Restaurant is located in a small strip mall. Nothing fancy. It appears this location used to offer some form of a buffet, but this has been discontinued due to Covid the past few years. As usual, I always order a Combination Egg Foo Young to determine if the ingredients are fresh. Surprisingly, this dish was done very differently from the usual Egg Foo Young I’ve eaten in the other areas. The normal Egg Foo Young involves assorted vegetables with small pieces of meat or chopped meats embedded. This mixture is placed on a large metal ladle, beaten eggs are added to the mixture, and that combination is placed into hot oil and fried to a certain crispness. The end product is eaten over rice with a brown gravy added. Green River does it differently - The Egg Foo Young were smaller patties. No meat was added to the mixture before frying. Larger pieces of meat and shrimp processed for other dishes are stir fried till done, and then placed with the smaller egg patties in its own take-out container, with brown sauce added to the final combination. The taste of the final product was excellent, with textures not normally found with this dish. The stirred fried meats were very fresh, and the good sized shrimp was particularly succulent and sweet. This is something I did not expect nor experienced before. Considering how tasty this was, I’m very confident everything offered by this restaurant will be of similar high quality. Highly recommended.Happy Eating !!!!

Fraud! On Jan 1st 2022, we ordered our $43.01 meals for pickup. They ran my credit card TWICE for a total of $86.02. I will never try this restaurant again!

Best Asian food in town. You can't beat the price for the big portion you get. If you love spicy food it's a must because when you ask for spicy you get spicy. my personal favorites are the curry chicken and sesame chicken but everything is a good honestly.Dietary restrictions: They make the food to order so if you have anything you can't eat they can definitely accommodate
