It breaks my heart to have to leave such a negative review of Eclipse, because this restaurant and the Moonrise holds a very special place in my heart. Many years ago, this was one of my all-time favorite spots in the city. My husband and I had our first date at the rooftop bar, spent our first Valentine’s Day at Eclipse, got engaged on the patio, and even spent our wedding night at the hotel. Back then, the food was excellent, the service was great, and the overall vibe was fun and kitschy. It’s been several years since we’d been back, but I had assumed I would be getting the great experience I was used to.
Last night, a friend and I took our 5-6yo daughters to a concert nearby, and I booked a reservation at Eclipse for a fun “fancy” dinner for the girls. My daughter and I arrived at 5:30 when the restaurant was not at all busy. It took a few minutes for someone to come to the front to seat us, but we were given waters pretty quickly. My friend was running a few minutes behind, but our server kept asking if we were ready to order even though our party was not yet complete, which seemed odd. I had to ask several times for a kids menu, and was confused when she said that she “would have to get it from the wall.” Finally she brought a paper kid’s menu that was stained with food, scribbled with crayon, and had scotch tape around the edges…literally an old gross menu that had clearly been taped to a wall. So weird. Our friends arrived, and we quickly placed an order. I had a burger and a beer, my friend had a chicken fettuccine alfredo and a beer, her daughter ordered what the menu described as “fettuccine with 2 meatballs and marinara” and my daughter had chicken tenders and fries. The girls both asked for lemonades as well. We got our drinks reasonably fast, but we started to notice that people who were seated after us were getting their food. At this point we had been there for 40+ minutes with no food in sight. Finally my burger arrived (it was a little small for the price, but pretty good), and my friend’s daughter was brought a plate of fettuccine alfredo with chicken and 3 very overcooked (let’s just say burnt) meatballs. When we said that it was supposed to be a red sauce, the server just stared at us and unapologetically said that this was what we ordered. It wasn’t, but the kid was fine with it, so we let it roll. Several minutes later, my friend got her food. It took an additional FIFTEEN minutes for my daughter’s chicken strips to come out. Our concert started at 7:00, and her food finally arrived at 6:53. I asked for a manager twice, and was told that they were too busy to come to the table. Our server never offered refills or apologized for the delay until the chicken finally came…she then offered us a box (not helpful since we can’t take a food container into a music venue) and offered us some discount for future visits (sadly we clearly have no intention of coming back). It then took several more minutes to get the check even though it was obvious that we were in a hurry. My child’s meal was comped thankfully, but I had to take a hungry toddler clutching a single chicken strip to her first concert. Sigh.
I guess it’s the end of an era and my family will bo longer be coming to the Moonrise, despite the sentimental value it holds for us. The food is decent but overpriced, the selection is not at all what it used to be, and the gross used kids menu was really the nail in the coffin. Very disappointing.

Elisha did an amazing job from the start. She greeted us in the lobby and was delighted to have a large group without a reservation or at least made us feel that way! Great job!
