The food was good as were the prices. The chicken quesadillas were generously sized and my friend already wants to go back! I had the Carne Asada burrito which was great, and the chips were fresh, salsa was good. A little disappointed in the Margarita which tastes like a powdered base - but I did not confirm that and I drank it all anyway lol. Service was good. Not much ambiance, it's in a storefront just east of McCausland on Manchester. Will definitely be going back to try several other favorites like Chili Verde and the Rellenos.

Best Mexican food in STL! Little known spot but truly a gem! I wanted people to know … and yet I don’t because their margs and their food is so excellent. And there’s so much heart in this place. The people that own it are awesome

Tried El Potro, when my go-to Greek restaurant had closed early unexpectedly for the evening.

I got the Burrito De Pollo Fajita. Chicken was juicy and tender. Peppers were nice and fresh. Lots of warm queso cheese sauce on top. Came with black beans, which were very good. I also asked for a side of rice. The chips and salsa were very good as well. The salsa tasted authentic and had a nice level of flavor and spice.

I will definitely return to El Potro with friends and family as it has earned a spot on my go-to Mexican restaurants list!

A great hole in the wall. The food was excellent and the service was very good for a small restaurant. The only downside is the parking lot is very small and hard to maneuver especially if they are hosting an event.

Such a hidden gem in STL! The margaritas were outstanding. The service was excellent, the staff were all friendly and attentive. The bartender even came to our table to top off our glasses with the extras left from making our margaritas. The mole and verde sauces for the tamales and enchiladas were so flavorful. The prices are very reasonable.

Excellent food at a bargain price. Nicolas was an excellent host (owner & cook).
I had the Mole Poblano. My wife had the chicken enchiladas rancheros. Both were served in ABUNDANT portions and very authentic tasting. The huge glass of lemonade was a pleasant surprise.

I really really wanted to like this place but I was disappointed. The food was pretty bland and served lukewarm/cold. The fajitas were far from sizzling. Nobody in our group really enjoyed their meal except for someone who ordered tacos. Maybe it was an off night.

We stopped here on our way through town. Excellent cheese dip as an appetizer. Their steak fajitas were very tasty.

I really really wanted to like this place. But when I walked in the door and saw what it looked like I thought man this place must have some good food to get people to eat in here. Well I was wrong. Worst chicken fajitas I've ever had. And the beans they brought out were embarrassingly bad they were rock hard and cold. The food sucked overall the atmosphere sucked . The atmosphere sucked.Freezing cold.

I know that sounds like I'm really complaining but it really was this nasty
