LA SANDUNGA RESTAURANT Reviews
Food is excellent. The posole was so tasty. Get the green one! The salmon was a very good and generous portion with excellent mole. We heard them chopping the avocados to make our guacamole which was as fresh as the chopping indicated. Chicken enchiladas with green sauce was great and better than most established Mexican restaurants around town. Even the black beans were noteworthy. If you’re worried about them not having a liquor license right now, there is a liquor store upstairs...read full review

LA SANDUNGA RESTAURANT is a small, cozy spot offering authentic Mexican Oaxacan cuisine that impresses with its delicious food and generous portions. The menu features a variety of flavorful dishes such as tacos, chicken quesadilla, and the green posole, which is highly recommended for its tasty and authentic flavor. The Tres Mole, with tender slices of chicken and beef topped with one of the three types of mole, stands out as a highlight, along with the Oaxaca heritage plate, which includes a strip of beef and chicken, homemade guacamole, molotes, and chicken with mole. Weekend homemade tamales, wrapped in banana leaves with a smoky flavor, are hearty and filling. The quesadillas filled with chicken and accompanied by Mexican corn and black beans are large and flavorful, perfect for sharing. The guacamole is fresh and made with chopped avocados, adding to the authentic experience.
The ambiance is comfortable and not overly imported, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Service is friendly and attentive, with staff willing to explain the menu in detail. Despite some minor issues like needing more staff and occasional delays in food delivery, the quality of food more than compensates. The restaurant does not currently have a liquor license but allows customers to bring their own beer, which adds to the relaxed vibe. Fresh-made chips and salsa are available, though the salsa could use more spice. For special occasions, the restaurant offers treats like churros garnished with strawberries and blueberries. Overall, LA SANDUNGA RESTAURANT is a hidden gem that delivers excellent authentic Mexican food at a good price, making it a highly recommended spot for those seeking flavorful, well-prepared dishes in a cozy setting.
