5th time dining here....always exceptional food, drinks & great service! Warm dining room on a freezing cold night was very appreciated. Pillow Talk drink & Social Butterfly drink were amazing. Wagyu hot rock is ridiculous in a good way, worth the splurge. We love the crab rangoon. Miso Ginger Salad out of this world! Kept ordering the California King roll, but nothing we ordered was short of amazing. Pistachio ice cream for dessert, yum! I always say I can't wait to go back!

I came here for my birthday with a table of 5 and had a great time! We went at 5:30 on a Thursday to do the social hour tasting. They were very accommodating and allowed all 5 of us to do the tasting even though it’s usually for 2 (so they charged us for 2.5 tastings). I was surprised by how much food was included in the tasting - by the time the desert came out I was full. The nigiri was my favorite; when the first one came out we asked for soy sauce and the waitress told us we wouldn’t need it. She was 100% right.

The staff members were all very knowledgeable about the menu and very personable. The atmosphere was very nice too. Probably some of the best food I’ve had in STL.

(I believe our waitress’ name was Elise. She was amazing.)

The food was excellent and the cocktails were great. The service was mediocre. The main issue was we were sitting in the back dining room and of course this isn't probably every night, but it was so loud I could barely have a conversation with the person sitting across the table from me.

I want to begin by acknowledging that the food itself was excellent, as it always has been, and that many members of your staff were wonderful.
We dined at Sado on a Thursday evening with a party of four and set a food budget of $75 per person, which we have done on multiple prior visits with consistently great, nigiri-forward omakase experiences. This time, I also requested a vegan dish, based on positive past experiences.
From the beginning, pacing was extremely slow, with each dish taking 10–15 minutes to arrive. I raised this concern directly with our server, Jess B., and asked whether the pace could be adjusted, as we were sitting hungry. She said she would try.
Five dishes and nearly two hours later, we were just as hungry as when we arrived and had received only one piece of nigiri per person.
At that point, we were told we were nearing our budget. We clarified that the $75 budget was per person, not total. Jess confirmed she understood this, yet still did not clearly explain the situation or adjust the omakase accordingly. The experience felt unplanned and misaligned with both our budget and expectations.
After paying our bill, we asked to speak with a manager to provide verbal feedback. When Sam joined us, they stated that we had waited until after paying to raise concerns, which is not accurate - we had already expressed issues with pacing and food quantity. They also described us as “passive-aggressive,” including because we were quiet when food was brought to the table. This framing felt inappropriate and dismissive given the circumstances and the cost of the meal.
What was most concerning was the tone of this interaction. There was no acknowledgment of the issues raised or attempt to understand or address the experience, despite clear opportunities to do so.
Sado has long been one of our favorite restaurants, which is why this experience was so disappointing. I am sharing this not to argue, but to ask for accountability and reflection around service execution, communication, and management response when guests raise concerns in real time.

Was this the worst meal I’ve ever had? No. Was this the worst $350 meal I’ve ever had? Yes. I’ve eaten a lot of sushi, and this restaurant’s take on ‘pre-seasoned sushi’ unfortunately does not let you taste the sushi at all.

Our waiter Steve was super chill. Explained everything to us, so that we can understand. Asked about allergies. Telling us how to order to have a more enjoyable experience which was awesome. The Bluefin Tuna Encrudo was awesome. Masu Sashimi was amazing as always. My favorite would have to be the Eel Roll, it was smokey, the sauce was captivating and the presentation was nice.

First time dining here, was rudely greeted with a black lady at the door, had a snobby attitude with her bug eyes, did not feel welcomed at all.

Luckily the food was great, everything was delicious with beautiful presentation. Very unique flavors as well. The menu was a little confusing but not a big deal. They also accommodate well with allergies.
