This is a 10 star place. The atmosphere is great, the service is top notch and the food was spectacular. No wait time and the waitress checked on our table throughout. We had ribs, burnt ends, and lean brisket. All great! Definitely try the cracker Mac and cheese, it's to die for!

I onky ordered appetizers and had leftovers. The hot ribs were so very good. Really, they were quite tasty and gave you that fall off the bone sticky goodness that only comes from ribs . Now let's talk toasted burnt ends ravioli. You need to try these. At first, they didn't seem special, but the flavor just comes at you on the back end, and wow! So good- smoky, meaty, toasty. Definitely order some for the table. Our server, Hannah, was very attentive and pleasant. We had a minor inconvenience, and they immediately addressed the issue to our satisfaction. I would not hesitate to return. Pro tip- you can get a Fitz root beer and scoop of vanilla to make your own float!

Such good food! I went with my two friends who are locals, one of which grew up in the neighborhood. I hadn't had St. Louis BBQ for about eight years and was excited to try it again. I'm a vegetarian who will occasionally eat meat, and I decided to flex so I could enjoy the local specialties. I ordered a pulled chicken sandwich with a side of their cracker mac. I added some potato salad on the side as well. My friends both got the brisket platter with the cheddar mac, one got the fries and one got the corn. We split the burnt ends toasted ravs. I had never had toasted ravioli before and they were so tasty (although my friends were scandalized that they came with a dipping sauce that wasn't marinara). I thought the BBQ was delicious, particularly with the sauces they had on offer. The mac was EXTREMELY delicious, with the Ritz cracker really leveling it up. If you're looking for some good BBQ in the Loop, you should stop here! Get a reservation if you can, it's always busy.

Excellent experience dining on a random weeknight. Staff was quick and attentive. Food tastes incredible! This is one of the best dining options on the Loop.

Looking for St Louis ribs, we rode Metro out to The Loop from downtown to Salt+Smoke (S+S). Was it worth the trip? Sure; BBQ ribs of any kind are worth the trip. As served, S+S ribs are just another BBQ and the table sauces are nothing to rave about. The fries are good and the Mac'nCheese is really good. S+S is a good dinner out and the neighborhood makes for a nice stroll.

My friends and I were in Missouri for a few days so we only had enough time to try out one BBQ spot. Since Salt + Smoke had the most number of reviews on Yelp and was close to where we were staying, we decided to check it out for dinner. As a party of 4, we were seated right away without a reservation. Overall, the food was somewhat below average and the service was noticeably sub-par. The full rack of St. Louis cut ribs we ordered were fall off the bone, but ate dry, similar to the texture you get when you think of dried, packaged jerky. You absolutely need to smother them in sauce in order to fully enjoy them. Of the four sauces available, my favorite one was the sweet heat followed by the mustard based sauce. Like the ribs, the pulled pork and pulled chicken were also dry. The brisket was far too lean. I see some folks mentioning in their review that you are able to request a fattier cut, but this option wasn't even presented to us, neither on the menu, or by our server. The meat combo plates come with an impressive looking popover, but this item seemed to be universally hated by diners. If you look around the restaurant, most diners didn't even touch theirs. With my platter, I got the coleslaw and the white cheddar cracker mac. The noodles for the mac was overcooked and the coleslaw was nothing special. Regarding the service, the server who was taking our orders looked very annoyed that we were not ready to order our drinks 15 seconds after we had sat down. Furthermore, when we pointed out that our order was incorrect -- that we were served pulled pork instead of pulled chicken for one of the meat platters, our server gave us an dead-pan, accusatory glare. When the right protein was finally brought over, our server was very snarky when the chicken was handed over to us, almost hinting that we were intentionally trying to take advantage of the situation that we had no control over. So confused! I deeply regret coming to Salt + Smoke over Pappy's Smokehouse or Stellar Hog.

Flavor of meat was great but received child -sized portions.Gotta do better for a barbecue place! I don't go to a barbecue restaurant for mac and cheese and beans. I would like some meat please!

The Mac n cheese was served cold, had to walk over and interrupt the servers conversation. The replacement M&C didn't come until we were finished with the rest of the meal. Server asked if we wanted it to-go. "No. I wanted it hot with my meal". I talked to the manager regarding the issues. His reply "I'm sorry". Then he just walked away. Haven't been back, won't be back. Too many great restaurants in town to patronize a 'less than' one.

First time here. Visited from Denver with my family. The service was great. Scott, our waiter was amazing and a great conversationalist. The food was good and the restaurant was clean and very well lit. Food didn't take more than 10 mins to come out from the time the order was taken. We'll be back.
