Extremely underwhelmed for what should have been a great evening...this place has REALLY declined! Business dinner for four last night, which should have been a great evening. Our waiter came to the table all of 4 times throughout a 2.5 hour sitting...only to take orders and deliver food, never to inquire about how the meal was or if we needed anything.
What is more troubling about this, is we watched countless other tables enjoy endless visits by the wait staff and a Bommarito that was very full of himself. Our take was that we weren't regulars and didn't have a hired woman with us for the wait staff to drool over.
We've been to Tony's now 4 times in the last year, and each time it just got worse. Mediocre food + a poor wait staff = us never going back nor recommending to anyone. There are much better places to go in St. Louis for a far better experience!

If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. The service was amazing and the food was top notch.

Took my wife here for our 10th wedding anniversary. They initially sat us upstairs in what appeared to be a sports bar. I was asked and explained the occasion for our visit and got a cold response from the waitress. Once we said we wanted the tasting menu they scrambled to put us down in the actual dining area. They ended up stuffing us into a table in the corner of the room next to a wall despite there being plenty of much nicer tables in the open. We generally felt like we were being treated as second class guests from the get go.
Overall I was unimpressed. The food was okay, but certainly not at the price they are asking. Pretty sure the penne we were served was Barilla from a box. The steak was supposed to be medium rare, it was medium. We were served two mediocre slices of cheese on a plate with moldy loose grapes rolling around, which they didn't even bother to remove the stems from and a couple pieces of lettuce littered on the plate. The rest of the food was nothing I couldn't prepare at home.
At the end of the meal after I paid the check the maître d' rushed over to our table to give me my hat for some reason. We weren't ready to leave at that point. Instead of handing me my hat he decided to set it on top of my dirty napkin on the table.
Edit: Finally got a response from the owner paying lip service with a limp apology and nothing else. I heard ownership recently changed at this place to another member of a certain well known oligarchy, which would explain everything.

For a 4 diamond AAA, fine dining restaurant, Tony’s falls short. A bright art deco interior was not welcoming as we were seated facing the setting sun. Table service was very good, platting in the dining area, splitting our plates, resetting service, crumb collection, but fell short when our Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc was served at room temperature. The wine list is extensive and diverse. The special Ahi Tuna Tartare was excellent, but unexpectedly quite spicy. The Scallops were very good. The mussels were gritty and had bits of shell mixed in. The Penne, Asparagus, and Wild Mushrooms were excellent, as was the Zabaglione over Raspberries.

So let me say the food was great! I've been here twice now, and this happened both times... if the chair you're in faces the aisle, it constantly gets bumped. I'm not a large person at all, so it's not like my chair is sticking way out or anything. Since this happened the last time, I decided to count how many times my chair got bumped in 2 hours. 43 times!!!! Unbelievable! The aisles need to be wider, apparently. Then they have a station on the floor where they prepare food. They let kids/customers do it! I'm like, whaaaat? It's totally unprofessional in my book. Some customers were given tours of the kitchen as well. I'm not sure how I feel about that. What defines you to get to go into the kitchen? Wealth? Who you know? Kids and adults were going into the kitchen. Very unprofessional. I don't need people breathing all over my food with no hair nets or gloves or masks on. The manager only asks certain customers about their meal and service. Guess you have to be a regular for that to happen. I'm really shocked by all this. I expected better from such a high-end restaurant.

Service at former location downtown was much faster. Ambience at Clayton location is better, however. It took an hour to get salads. Food quality good as always except the filet was cold. Our server,, Adam, was friendly and made sure we had everything we needed.

Tony’s of Clayton was a “awe” experience this evening!! A classy & upscale ambiance with great tasting food- and unmatched service!! Our server Antwon, Brian and Luci was top notch!! They never let us run empty- that Antwon is a “step above the rest”- you haven’t been served until he takes care of you!! Tony’s thank you for being the class of Clayton!! The owner Mr Bommarito, came over and introduced himself- engaging me and my family - what a personable touch!! A major thank you-to all of Tony’s staff from the front door to the back, you all are top of the line! The class of Clayton ✨

Best restaurant in St Louis and maybe anywhere
I could rave on and on about Tony’s. Finally got a chance to try them out and everything was perfect. The cocktails were made perfectly! The Linguine with Lobster and Shrimp is by far the best pasta I’ve ever had. Brian provided excellent service as did the rest of the team. Will now be one of our go-to's.

I have always heard about Tony's, but had never eaten there. It did not disappoint. Our food was delicious. The service was phenomenal. The staff greeted us by name and made us feel welcome. The food was great, but I will always remember the way the staff made us feel, appreciated and valued.

Never again. It is definitely not a place for everyone, despite it being 2024. They seem to WANT to cater to ONLY a specific demographic, and it was witnessed as soon as we walked in. The maître d’ who could have cared less about us - no form of greeting whatsoever, dry and inattentive. She didn’t utter a word! Ha!Yet, her attitude was much different for Caucasian people leaving out of the door. The experience made us very uncomfortable, as a result, leaving no room to consider dining here again! It could honestly stand to become a members-only type restaurant, as then people like us would know readily to avoid. Will stick to dining with Dominic’s Trattoria down the street if we ever desire Italian while in the Clayton area.
