I just don't know how you beat or improve on the burgers or potatoes. Even the salad was wonderful. On a trip up to Glacier National Park, we stopped in Helena to eat and we're so glad we ate at Old Salt. Our meal was so mouth-watering-delicious that we came back at least twice more before we flew home. We still talk (and debate the ranking of dipping sauces) about how good the food was and how we can't wait to return. Staff were super friendly and made our many visits a joy. We salute the high quality food and great stewardship of our land and cattle!

The hamburgers were so good. I can’t explain it in words and the potatoes cooked in beef fat. It’s the best thing I’ve ever had as a fried potato or french fry.

I’ve been here a few times, never had this issue. I ordered a single cheese burger and the side of potatoes, the bun was expired or they ran out and was serving the gluten free buns. The gluten free bun is $2 extra and is like eating cardboard and I got 5 potatoe slivers while the rest, 90%, of the serving were flakes left over in the bottom of the fryer. I said something and was blown off at, basically to bad! I should have gotten 3 bucks back or an additional order. Nope just a lost look in a workers face with no concerns. You won’t miss my business but do better so others don’t feel like they don’t matter!

It is sometimes busy and loud and the seating options can be limited since it is so busy at times. Worth a visit anyway.
I think the beef fat potatoes is a interesting idea but the three times I've had them they were just extra crispy potatoe chunks without seasoning, maybe I'm missing something.
A damn good burger in a dive bar. What's not to like? Also, you could pay more, easily; but you won't get a better burger in Helena.

The burgers were delicious, but those fried potatoes are the best I've ever had! Love that they locally source their beef! Definitely going here again!
I came in and ordered the double burger with potatoes and the horseradish mayo, plus a bratwurst. The order came to about $30 with tip and the portion was a great split for my spouse (Edit: My Husband) and I. Potatoes were great and the sauce was very tasty. The place I stop shy of a 5 stars is the meats. I don’t know if it is overcooking, or if the ration of fat needs to be higher in the patty and the sausage- but both meats were very dry. I’m glad they are showcasing locally sourced meats, and I hope that a little experimentation with cooking style and meat to fat ratio will help showcase Montana Meats in the best light possible. Overall- nice venue, we will be back.

We’ve eaten here 6-7 times now, so obviously we are fans! However 2 times we came we ordered our same favorite dishes and they were way over salted or undercooked. One time seems fine, kitchen is having a rough time or whatever. But it would seem there is some general inconsistency. Service is always 10/10 and the ambiance is great. Overall Helena is very lucky to have the co~op in town!!
