My wife and I consistently have a delicious meal at The Union. The serve staff are always friendly, the story of the restaurant and Old Salt Co-Op are amazing, and the food speaks for itself. Helena is lucky to have this restaurant! Most recently I had the best flat iron steak I’ve ever had. Perfectly seasoned and cooked, and every bite melted!

The second we arrived to the union, I immediately love the decoration. Sadly, the ladies who work there weren’t as charismatic. My friends said their food was good, for me, a the burrito was okay, as a chile verde burrito it should have some spice but the presentation of it was really lovely.
I wish they had military discount!🫡

Food is good but I wish there was consistency. During our first time visit food was much better than second time we went there. Same for water. It was chlorinated and couldn’t drink it.

I was very excited when I saw the concept of this place since they announced and opened. I've had brunch here with my daughter and we enjoyed that. I also like the counter service for the butchery portion. Had not been able to go try dinner sooner because my partner is a vegetarian and the menu is very limited if you don't eat meat.

Took a friend from out of town for a steak over plans to go to the Windsor Bar in Boulder. We didn't have reservations but despite an otherwise empty dining area, we were asked to wait as several parties were seated ahead of us. We were eventually ushered over to the bar (the dining area never really did fill up, leaving us a bit confused as to why we were placed at the bar).

The atmosphere is pleasant. The modern-farm decor works for the menu and settings and the grill really does piece everything together quite nicely into a warm atmosphere.

For appetizer, we ordered shishito's were pleased as the salt, sweet, and heat all balanced nicely. Both of us were pretty certain we had ordered the beet salad but it was never delivered and never showed up on the tab, which is a bummer after reading some of the reviews here.

As far as entrees, Ordered a bavette and my friend got the sirloin. Look, I get that this is local beef and the intent is for the flavors to stand on their own, but when I say the steak was under-seasoned, that is after that consideration. Both steaks came out medium instead of medium rare, probably a function of whatever drippings/sauce and the heat from the plate continuing the cooking process - the size probably also played a factor in them being overcooked. Flavor-wise my steak tasted 'ok' but the flaked salt was sprinkled sparingly and couldn't lift the flavor beyond bland. We had the smashed potatoes alongside the steaks and they were 'ok' but also dry and lacking decent seasoning. Something, like an herby sour cream, could dramatically help these. Ended up dipping them into the pan sauce that was on the plate.

We passed on dessert. No offense but Big Dipper was on the checklist of places to hit that night.

In the end, service was alright. Despite sitting at the bar, it did feel like we were an afterthought when it came to checking in on drinks/the experience.

So, to summarize, I love the concept of this place but the execution fell short of my expectations on almost all fronts. Nothing particularly terrible but, for the price, I certainly expected more from here. With some minor tweaks to the service and food, this place could easily soar to being the top in Helena but, until then, there's some work to be done.

Spectacular brunch yesterday; I'd give it 10 stars if possible! My husband and two sons, had the biscuits and gravy, breakfast burger, and chicken fried steak. I had the avocado toast, and we shared around, just absolutely off the charts delicious. We cant wait to go back to try more! We are so lucky to have this restaurant in Helena, Thank You!!

This place was so good, we went 2 nights in a row!

With Brandi we had the perfect host! She was way more than a waitress: Polite, funny, friendly - and what makes a restaurant visit special: She was personal, meaning: You could talk about many other things than just the menu or the order - life, travel, interests; and that’s what makes it personal! Very nice!

The food was delicious! The meat was perfectly made to order. Our chef, Gabe, was only his 2nd and 3rd night at the grill - and he did an awesome job! And as a side we had the polenta: What can I say?!? It was to die for!

The Union is a very nice place for fantastic meat and a nice atmosphere. Highly recommendable! Thanx guys for great work!

Helena has been needing a brunch place like this! Coming from a foodie who has enjoyed brunch all over the country this is top 5 ever! Such well balanced flavors and great presentation. The service was amazing too, Diana was such a charm and so friendly!!! If you have to wait just know there is a reason and it’s worth it!

A great place to have dinner. My wife and I love to come here for dinner. I love eating a good steak, and learning where it was sourced. The staff are always friendly and professional, too.

Skip the hen of the woods mushrooms - they marinate it in soy so they are extremely salty and the order we received were also burnt to a crisp. The ribeye however was tender and perfectly cooked, would return just for that.

Love a great farm to table experience. Nice enough but not so fancy I felt out of place.
The beet salad was hands down the BEST I've had. So yummy.
We had some sort of beef croquettes for a starter & they were fabulous too.
Star of the evening was my 16 ounce ribeye, medium rare. Seasoning was perfection and the grilled ciabatta bread rounded it out nicely.
Would definitely give them a try if you are in the area.

Wow, just wow. This place is absolutely amazing. We came in from a long 3 hour drive. It was a decision made last minute. Best meal we’ve had since we’ve been in Montana. Our server Sandra was so very sweet and kind to us. We had no idea this place closed at 9 on Sunday. We arrived 30 minutes before closing, still had the best service! Place was amazing! 10/10
