Black Coffee Roasting Company

I feel that we lack truly exceptional third wave coffee roasters here, but Black Coffee is on par with the better specialty coffees available in Missoula.

My negative review comes from Black Coffee’s greenwashing. The website boasts about their “Sustainable Footprint” but you are not able to get a glass, ceramic cup or mug. Even though I could see plenty of glass cups and ceramic mugs behind the counter I was told that paper is the only option. Bummer! They said the paper cups were compostable. However, this only works if all the cups are collected and sent to the composting site. Maybe they are, I didn’t investigate this. However, I know for sure that coffee is much more pleasant out of ceramic mug, and offering reusable dishes is a pretty small ask for a company that cares about sustainability.

I will be happy to return to Black Coffee if they take some basic steps toward sustainability.

I drink a lot of coffee, decaffeinated. Finding an excellent decaffeinated blend takes time, but time worth spent. Black Coffee is the rich, deep, earthy, and delicious roast I want. Thank you Black Coffee!

This is literally the best coffee I've ever had in my life. I just went on a cross-country roadtrip and tried the "best" coffee in every place and it all just made me want to drive back to Missoula. And so I did. We went like eight hours out of our way to come back to Black. Also, the instant coffee is in a league of it's own, and the food selection is unique. I don't usually review things so yk its real <3

Don't get the hype. The coffee was good, but it is served in a to go cup, even if you stay. Not much food. No wifi. The atmosphere is decent, and the staff was friendly, which saved it a bit.

Great, rich coffee and kind, friendly staff. Pastries and cookies. Modest amount of seating. Industrial atmosphere.

Parking: Street parking. You might drop off your friends at the front of the building then drive around the block until you find a parking spot.

Kid-friendliness: Industrial atmosphere lends itself to a laid back place for kids.

Wheelchair accessibility: One level, no steps. Walker or wheelchair can go through the front door.

Pretty good coffee. Fresh, strong and robust. Pastry selection is decent, staff very hospitable.

No wifi.

Good coffee. Beautiful place to work. Nice ambience. First coffee shop I’ve been to in as long as I can remember that does NOT have wifi. I guess I was naive to just assume they would, but I bought a coffee, sat down and got all set up to work, and then learned they didn’t have it. I can’t hold this against them and that assumption is on me at the end of the day, but in almost felt like a bait and switch for a coffee shop with this much workspace in today’s day and age.

This would have been a 5 star review if they had wifi (even slow wifi) or if they had some sort of sign that said “fyi - no Wi-Fi here.”

Great cappuccino.

Loved Black Coffee Roasting in Missoula! We both enjoyed our lattes and even came back about 90 minutes later to buy some beans. The staff were awesome and loved to location and energy of the place. Would definitely come again!

Heart broken the new owners got rid of the toast menu just wrong. Sole reason I chose BCR over others in town!

Definitely my favorite coffee shop in town! Consistently great quality, attentive staff, and cozy indoor/ outdoor seating.
