Super cute and charming bistro. Randomly stop in and sat at the bar. Service was great and friendly. Food came out fast. We'll place this spot in our rotation between Porte Rouge, Scottys and Finn.

The French Onion soup was excellent and the lengthy wine list very good as well. The Dinner was poor - very disappointing. The duck confit for both us was overcooked, tough, and certainly from a very very small duck! We should have rejected the dinner course. Desert quality was mixed. The Creme Brulee was very good, however the Chocolate Torte left much to be desired, old, dried out ??? For the high prices charged overall a lot of improvement is needed. Of the numerous excellent restaurants we have dined in throughout the USA this restaurant doesnt make the cut. Service was very good but a suggestion would be the waiter should dress to fit the part of an expensive restaurant, not as a burger takeout server. Of course this review is based on only one entree and the desert but we would be reluctant to try again. As to recommendations, Diner beware!Reservations by e-mail is a poor method. Quality restaurants take their reservations by telephone.

Overall it was a good time. The food was excellent and the staff was great. Portions are small, but the quality is high. The only negative I could say is that it's pretty cramped. I think if they pulled a table or two it would help open up the space and you wouldn't feel so packed in.

We have been to the Boxcar Bistro a couple of times. My husband and I highly recommend dining there or, maybe you could stop in for an appetizer and a glass of some of the best Champagne or wine that you will find in Missoula, Montana. The best thing about the Boxcar Bistro is the intimate setting and the service. The service is impeccable. Personal and delightful. Our wait person tonight was and is the best that you can imagine. He is intelligent and witty and tonight, he never missed a beat. Plus, he is a super nice guy. He shared with us that he has lived in Montana for a long time and he loves the mountains and his family. These are the things that Montana is all about...where we live and the people that we love. We had such a wonderful time tonight. The food was great, but the service, the people and the place were excellent. It was a nice time.Happy Valentine's Day

The only place that gives you soulful satisfaction and real food. This truly is an amazing experience from every bite to very specific wine you can’t find anywhere in Missoula. If you want that Ratatouille flashback with every bite this is the place to go!! I cannot express how excited I am to return again and again !

The food was delicious. I had never had beef cheeks but was pleasantly surprised. We live close to the location so it was convenient for us. We also loved the vibe. We were disappointed in the service. We were there for 2 hours and it was a waiting game to even get drink orders. They were kind but the service was very slow. We'll go back and try again.

We had the special Valentines week meal, Tomahawk steak and shrimp. It was terrible, full of gristle and tough. The shrimp had the consistency of mashed potatoes. We were so disappointed.! We have eaten there before and expected much better.

Wonderful atmosphere, great service and delectable fare they had it all when I took my wife out for a lovely Valentine's day. Prices, though high for Missoula, were more than fair. Will go again!

Superb service. I made a reservation for a casual dinner for two with my partner, the service was rather charming and invitational. The menu is based mostly on French recipes, which could be overwhelming for customers not familiar with the language or cuisine, however, the servers made every effort possible to make it approachable, exciting, and fun.

Nice ambience, a little tight but intimate. Food and service were excellent. Small menu but everyone's food was cooked perfectly. Menu changes so always new things to choose from. Lots of good wine choices and love the red wine glasses!

3 of us went for a celebration dinner. The waiter was excellent, and the scallop and fish entrees, plus the beet salad and house salad were excellent. The waiter helped with wine and other choices. We enjoyed our evening so much, and will be back.
