“Restaurant that looks like the movie "Coco" due to the decor, very nice.
Mayan cuisine dishes, excellent aperitif.
The rest good, but only for once.
It is located just outside Tulum.
Ample parking.”
“We dined at Onyx Bar and had an amazing experience. The octopus and shrimp tacos were absolutely delicious, and even the kids' nuggets were surprisingly good. We left feeling super full and satisfied. Our server, Gisele, was incredibly helpful and greeted us with a warm smile throughout our meal.”
“I am very happy to know that after +5 years since the last time I came for the first time, the place continues to maintain its essence ? the excellent taste of its food and the good service ?...1000% recommended ??”
“We were at the OG's yesterday and it was highly recommended.
The food was very good and so were the drinks, and there was a DJ who played live.
Really really great ??”

“Delicious pizzas and at a fair price.
I tried the focaccia 7/10 because I thought it was focaccia bread as such, but it is a pizza base with olive oil and rosemary that was delicious.
Pizza Boccanera (if I remember correctly it's the one in the photo) 10/10 spectacular. Without a doubt when I return to Tulum I will return for a pizza
I tried another cheese with walnut (whimsical I think it's called) and more than delicious, if I could in a restaurant I would add caramelized pears and it is 11/10.
Good deal, fast service.
Super important, there is no cross contamination in the kitchen, so if you are allergic to shellfish, remember to mention it when placing your order, but you can eat with complete confidence.
The habanero chili cream they give is great, if you can't handle the spiciness, better stay away from it.”
“The place is fascinating, the atmosphere and the treatment are the most beautiful, the mamey mezcalitas are a delight and the shrimp tlayudas are extraordinary
Widely recommended ?”

“Everything tasted incredible. Even our friends who eat meat were raving about it as we ate. It was so good we literally all clapped our hands in enthusiastic applause to the chef at the end of our meal. Prices were also very affordable and the service was excellent.”

“I had to leave a review for this restaurant after they were so kind and accommodated a group of 12 of us an hour and half after our scheduled reservation. The day of our reservation, our house lost power and all signal, and we weren’t able to contact the restaurant or any taxi services all day until we were moved to a new airbnb with wifi. At this point we weren’t able to get a cab until an hour after our originally scheduled reservation (and we had a large party of 12). The folks at Tu were so so kind to us and let us come late to the restaurant. They greeted us with free mezcal shots. The food was delicious and beautifully plated. We ordered 4 appetizers, at least 6 bottles of wine, and main courses for everyone and it only ended up being about $60usd per person, which we thought was incredibly well priced for the amount and quality of food we had. The restaurant is so cute with a little window to peak into the cooks in the kitchen. It also had great vegan options for our group. The risotto was one of the best risottos I’ve ever had in my life! Also, at one point, a musician came in and played us some live music, which was unexpected but fun. Thanks again Tu for a great last night of our trip!
Vegetarian options: Good vegetarian options”
“It has a wide variety of rolls, the quality of food is very good. Outside of the rolls the menu is basic but it does the basics.
The ramen ? was delicious ? and has details that enhance the dish.
The edamame were also of excellent quality and the preparation with garlic and salt was very good. I suggest adding a variant using lemon and soy sauce.
The very fresh passion fruit water has a lot of ice. I recommend you order the drink with half.”
“Don't miss it. If you like Thai food and you know what's good for you, don't pass it by.
Penang is better than the Massaman in my humble opinion, and the cashew chicken is to die for.
Service is fine. I think waiters/waitresses in Mexico in general need to learn to not pick at their face/nose whilst on the job, it's a terrible habit and doesn't breed confidence in hygiene...
All being said and done.
9/10.”
“This was definitely the best food and best service we had on this trip. We got the BLT and the Tulum Bowl. Both had a lot of flavor and were fresh. The banana bread is amazing too. Wouldn’t recommend the coffee and matcha latte but overall a good experience. cute little spot and very friendly staff”
“I love the place and its Mexican food?I am originally from the north of the country and as a good northerner I am something special when they serve me meat and here I didn't put any buts, the flank steak tacos and their freshly made tortillas? even the beans that they gave for free They gave me the seasoning from there, they are not the typical black beans from the south (nothing against it but it is strange that I eat them as a child) these reminded me of my land, I also ordered golden taquitos bathed in poblana sauce that ufff delii I left photos of taking the order a lemonade with little sugar and very kindly they served it to me just as it was
I ordered it since they prepared it on the spot, not the ones that already have the syrup and so, I will definitely return when I visit Tulum”
“Discover Jungle Jax, an atypical restaurant that is definitely worth a detour in Tulum. You will be won over by both the quality of its cuisine and the warm welcome. The meat here is exceptionally tasty, accompanied by a homemade sauce that we highly recommend you try. If you are passing through Tulum, don’t miss this unmissable address, dear French friends!”
“Wonderful family run place with outstanding food! A downtown gem!!
We took our party of 18 here for a last-day group celebration to end our vacation in Tulum. It was a diverse group age-wise (kids to older adults) and tastes varied widely (from seafood lovers to steak lovers). There menu had something for everyone. Outstanding ceviches and fresh fish, wonderful guacamole and salsas and perfectly cooked, delicious steak picanha.
Drinks had very nice options too, from small batch tequilas, beer and wine to mixed drinks.
But the best part of this outstanding experience was the warm, fun and gracious atmosphere. You could feel the warmth of the owners and staff. Live music and just about as nice of a get together spot as one could ask for. Maybe the restaurant could add some fans as it gets pretty hot! Thank you for a memorable last meal on our trip to Tulum!!”

“I absolutely loved Fresco’s Tulum! The fact that the staff speaks English made everything so easy and welcoming. There were plenty of vegan options to choose from, and every single dish was delicious. The service was outstanding – everything was prepared very quickly, and the staff was so attentive and kind. The atmosphere was perfect, adding to the overall wonderful experience. I highly recommend Fresco’s to anyone visiting Tulum. Everything was just amazing!💚”
“La comida es muy buena, las bebidas igual, lo unico que me dejo un poco que desear fue el servicio del mesero varias veces le pedi agua, limones y tenia que recordarle porque no los llevaba desconozco si se debio a que estaba la pelea del Canelo Alvarez y estaba prestando mas atencion a la pelea”
“Here's a review you can use: A Hidden Gem in Tulum – Casa Maria During our recent trip to Tulum, we stumbled upon Casa Maria, a small but beautiful Mexican bar and grill located right on the beach. This quaint restaurant exceeded all expectations. The food was absolutely perfect—authentic flavors, fresh ingredients, and every dish was cooked to perfection. The ambiance added to the experience: relaxing, cozy, and with a beachfront view that made the setting feel magical. The customer service was impeccable—every staff member was attentive, friendly, and made us feel right at home. Casa Maria may be small, but it has a big heart, delivering a dining experience that is simply unforgettable. If you're ever in Tulum, make sure to visit this hidden gem!”
“In a word: wow. The owner introduced himself and described the specials right as we came in, and his recommendation was spot on. Delightful presentation and good portions; very creative and cohesive menu. There was a confusion about one of the items we ordered, so he took it off our bill, and gave us shots of mezcal for the trouble. Excellent atmosphere and good service. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for something different and a pleasant dining experience.”
“If you are in staying close by the area of this restaurant I strongly recommend!! The gentleman Isidro was awesome welcoming us promptly and suggesting the happy hour. We order the guacamole & chips ( very good) along with the el pastor, 3 barbacoa tacos, and shrimp taco (very spicy but delicious) the drinks made by Gabriela so yummy. Hats off to the chef and the other woman cooking. Over all a great atmosphere and good food! Isidro was awesome. Great food”
“The place is so good and comfortable that I ended up asking for a job.
Kid-friendliness: They have many games and space to develop a good conversation.
Wheelchair accessibility: The staff supports you in case you need to go up to the second floor, and the first floor has a good space to pass through.”
“Very good food and a passionate waitress. Who loved to talk about the food and origin place. Very lovely place. Would very recommend to go there or take away.
Vegetarian options: They were plenty
Dietary restrictions: They asked before we ordered”

Takeout Restaurants
“We only made a stop to freshen up but the service was very good at all times, toilets could be improved in terms of cleanliness but throughout Mexico they are below my expectations.”
“Good, beautiful and affordable prices in Tulum. They have very good seasoning, very good service. It is located outdoors, it has fans. Although its location is very good, it is right at the intersection of the highway to Cancun and Cobá, so many trailers pass by, the experience does not diminish. Very good place for breakfast and it seems to have a good atmosphere at sunset.”
“I was in between 3 and 4 stars for this place; however, their service was amazing. My only drawback was the atmosphere. We were fighting off flies and getting bit by mosquitoes the entire time. Our waiter gave us some bug spray, but that did not ward off those flies. They also had no overhead fans but the restaurant is outdoors. The scenery is nice though. As far as the food, it wasn’t bad. I had the sushi and a rice dish. Sushi had more cream cheese than I would’ve preferred, but it was good.
Vegetarian options: There were plenty vegetarian options!
Parking: We parked a block down on the street. We went on a Friday evening and had no issues finding a park.”
“Our waiter was the best waiter in Tulum! Absolutely remarkable. There’s a couple of candids of him in my pictures. Our waiter was great at explaining things to us, his timing was great, and we often got what we needed without asking. The steak came out sizzling. The guacamole could have more taste to it. The red wine for a glass was tasty with a fruit taste to it. They have great, calm, soothing background music.”

“Went here in the evening for the famous mojitos and the bar did not disappoint. The mojitos, of which there was a wide choice, were very tasty and affordable. There was wonderful live music and the atmosphere was good here. At least no one was shot, like at a bar down the road.”
Drive-Thru Restaurants
“The staff were very friendly and helpful with suggestions! It was a cool location and the food was some of the best vegan food we have had in Mexico! The vegan cheese was really yum and there was lots of variety ! The hibiscus quesadilla was a fav!”
“Many thanks to Leo and Paloma for a great breakfast experience here today. The croissants we had were quite good, and the coffee was very much to our taste (good ratio of coffee to water, stronger than others we tried in Tulum but without being too bitter or sour).
Leo spoke English quite well and was super patient with us, helping us navigate the menu and explaining the difference between the various pastries they make. He also gave us more info about the coffee they serve, and gave us some good pointers on the attractions around Tulum and the best ways to get there.
We hope to go back before the end of our trip and would definitely recommend the spot.”
“Nice staff, typical and tasty Mexican food at fair prices (MXN$ 150 - 300). It’s a good option if looking for a less expensive restaurant near the beach.
Remember that suggested tips are just that — staff will happily accept if you lower their
suggestion to e.g. 10%.
Vegetarian options: Tacos, …
Parking: Free for guests.
Kid-friendliness: Baby cats playing around.
Wheelchair accessibility: Next to main road.”
“Very rich breakfast, for quantity price. The drinks taste delicious (plus the strawberry smoothie) and they have a lot of variety in their dishes. Super recommended.”
“I absolutely loved their aguachile, their ceviches, and their Tuna Tostadas. The food is to die for. It's very easy yo find and in spite of being in an expensive part of Tulum, the food was extremely affordable. If you visit Tulum and like seafood, this place is a must for a cognozeur.”
“Great place to enjoy good Italian food. We came for dinner and had margaritas with Caesar salad and Jamon Pizza. It was delicious and our waiter was very friendly, helpful and polite. Especially in the evening after sundown a great ambient lighting. Overall a great experience.
Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian options for all types of dishes (pizza, pasta, starters)”
“Great place! Very good price and the service, everyone is super friendly, a great dinner! A must stop if you come to Tulum. The chef and manager are Italian and do total honor to their roots!”
“The team at balnak did a wonderful job, definitely one of our best dinners at tulum. The service was amazing and the food was incredible. When we come back to tulum we will definitely visit balnak again.”
“We had great fajitas and smoothies. It’s a nice outdoor atmosphere and friendly service. Our server was a little overwhelmed with people arriving at the same time so the chef, Arielle, came out to help. She was terrific. She took into account some dietary needs we had and was friendly and very cheerful. The best service and food we’ve had in Tulum.”
“Ok, so this is the top rated sushi restaurant in Tulum. And for very good reason!
The food, the portions and the presentation, and the Flavors!
A truly delicious experience!
The cocktails were awesome and the atmosphere is almost Spa like.
If you like sushi and you are close to Tulum (I might even drive from Playa) you will not want to miss this!!”
Fine Dining
“We have been 2 times. First time was perfect. Amazing prawns, perfect fish (sea bass) and very good Sauvignon Blanc. Great service. Second time, was OK too. Service not so caring but nice. Nearly gave it just 4 point - coz you can not see what you eat. It is by far to dark.”
“I stayed here with two friends, arrived late but friendly welcoming. Very attentive staff both in the restaurant and on the beach serving drinks and food all day. The place is stunning and the staff were all lovely.”
“The attention, price and friendliness were the best. Ronaldo and Ángel were in charge of the service. We also celebrated my son's 1st birthday with a mango dessert. I highly recommend it.”
Cheap Eats
“This place has been around for a very long time. I don't know where all their prior reviews went, but they had hundreds of high reviews from people traveling between Tulum and PDC. Don't expect anything fancy or great service, but you will have some of the best cochinita pibil tacos around. That's all they serve; no carne "estrada", no nachos, no nothing other than cochinita. It's front and center where you can see it, and the tacos are made up front as well. Ask for your favorite beer or refreshment, then ask for three or four tacos. If you're out before the server comes back, just go over to where the tacos are being made and hold up 4 fingers for four more tacos. Simple as that. Quick, cheap, and delicious. Another heads up, they don't speak much, if any, English at all.”
“We stumbled upon this place by accident. Upon walking in I asked to look around and saw the amazing backyard. The hostess accommodated us even though it was a Friday and very busy. The service and everyone who came to the table-was the best I have had in tulum. The food was fresh, innovative and delicious. The atmosphere, music, ambiance and the coral was perfect. Watching the open kitchen was great. It was one of our favorite meals in tulum and a top five anywhere we have been. Go here and don't miss the corn ribs, dorado app and the crème brûlée pictured below.”
“incredible. I tried them in Quilmes, Argentina and I tried them here and they are still the best, the same flavor on the other side of the continent. Very tasty, fresh ingredients, good price, good service. Not to mention the best pizza in Tulum is that of the Gran Mono.”
“Great ambience and incredible live music! I went to celebrate my birthday and had the best time ever. The food was amazing specially the dessert (mango chocolate cheesecake with rosemary) WOW. The place had such chill and great vibes, and everyone was super nice as well. Can't wait to go back!”
“Food, atmosphere and service in my case good,But *be careful* I had to see a guy who serves some people (who in this case are already drunk) charges them in advance and does not return the change and I heard that when asked another customer argued that it is his tip since he did not has,.I understand that it charges but the change thing didn't seem right to me?♀️”
“Everything tasted incredible. Even our friends who eat meat were raving about it as we ate. It was so good we literally all clapped our hands in enthusiastic applause to the chef at the end of our meal. Prices were also very affordable and the service was excellent.”
“It's been almost a year since we ate at this little restaurant and I'm only publishing my review now, but I had to! To begin with, many restaurants in Tulum are expensive. But not this one, the prices are really affordable and everything is really excellent! The atmosphere is great, the employees were great and the boss was adorable! He even made us taste the dragon fruit for free. I recommend 1000%”
“Las BBQ Tulum exceeded our expectations! We had the brisket sandwich, ribs, and mezcalito, and everything was fantastic. The brisket was tender and flavorful, the ribs fell off the bone, and the mezcalito was refreshing. The laid-back atmosphere and friendly staff made the experience even better. Highly recommend!”
“Sun-Kissed Vibes and Unforgettable Flavors at Sol CantinaNestled in the vibrant heart of Tulum, Sol Cantina is a true gem—a place where the spirit of the town comes alive with every sip and bite. It’s more than just a cantina; it’s a celebration of the laid-back, sun-drenched lifestyle that Tulum embodies, where every visit feels like a warm embrace from an old friend. The experience kicks off with the Caguamas—those wonderfully oversized bottles of Victoria that are as refreshing as they are iconic. There’s something special about cracking open one of these big bottles; it’s a ritual that perfectly complements the easygoing vibe of the cantina. Whether you’re lounging with friends or simply soaking in the atmosphere, a cold Caguama in hand is the perfect way to unwind. But the real stars of the show are the tacos and quesadillas. The tacos are a testament to the art of simplicity, each one a burst of authentic Mexican flavor. From the succulent carnitas to the perfectly spiced chicken, every taco is crafted with care, wrapped in tortillas that are soft, fresh, and utterly delicious. It’s comfort food done right, the kind that satisfies both the stomach and the soul. The quesadillas at Sol Cantina are equally impressive, with their golden, crispy exteriors giving way to a warm, cheesy interior that’s packed with flavor. Whether you’re indulging in classic fillings or trying something a bit more adventurous, these quesadillas are the perfect companion to a cold Caguama.Sol Cantina isn’t just a spot to grab a bite—it’s a slice of Tulum’s vibrant culture, a place where the food, the drinks, and the atmosphere all come together to create an experience that’s as memorable as the town itself. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this is a place where the good times roll and the flavors linger long after you’ve left. A true Tulum treasure.”

“We tried this place on a whim. The service was amazing. Friendly, quick, noticed that I am not Spanish speaking but learning and helped me with finding my words. The service of the food was quick. Like a well oiled machine!
When we came home.. the food. It was amazing! The chicken is just our level of spice. The mais and coleslaw were perfect. We used the bread to dip out all the sauce. I mean yes! Soo good. Way to bring some delicious food in Tulum!”

“It is a place with excellent seasoning, clean and with attentive and fast service.
It is not a place with luxuries, it is a place to eat delicious food. You may have to wait because the place is not very big but as soon as you have a table your food will be served quickly.”
“Very good coffee and delicious banana bread, also attractively designed, but unfortunately the location right on the main street makes it a bit noisy.
The employee who served us was very friendly and there was even a small hibiscus lemonade on the house!
The Iced Americano Espuma could have been a little less sweet/intense for my taste.
It's usually a good sign when the owner stops by the café and eats something!
Parking: Since the café is on a main street, there are hardly any parking spaces available. It's best to park on the next street on the side of the café.
There is a gap on the side of the road directly in front of the café where you are actually not allowed to park, but that worked for us for a short time; we had asked an employee beforehand.”
“Refined and interesting dishes.
Pleasant and welcoming environment, surrounded by greenery.
Friendly and efficient service, with a special mention for Cristian who kindly accompanied us on this evening.”
