We have stayed here a couple of times before and always can't wait to come back. It's a lovely historic hotel with all the charm and character that a truly elegant hotel has. From the moment you arrive to see the elegance of the outside of the property, walking up to the huge and welcoming front porch to entering the lobby and being greeted by their wonderful staff you will love it. Our room was large and beaufully appointed. It was very quiet and the air conditioning worked perfectly. The bathroom was clean and in good shape. We had drinks on the front porch, dinner in the main dining room and breakfast in the breakfast nook. All our meals were great. Fantastic gym and recreational area complete with a huge water slide for kids! Its an easy walk to the quaint village of St. Andrews by the Sea. Pick up some hand made crafts, jams or chocolate or go for a whale watching tour. We had another great stay here. Thank you and can't wait to return.
This hotel sucked and they knew it. There is a lot that needs to be done to the facility. I understand it’s an older building, but good maintenance is what keeps up a structure. We stayed on the top floor (4th floor). There were obvious past roof leaks from poor patch work. The bathroom shower had the mounted body wash bottle missing, the hair dryer stopped working after some use, the carpet was dingy, the lighting was dim and the lamps had USB ports that either were knocked out of alignment or didn’t work entirely. Also, the standard rooms did not have a fridge. The halls of the hotel were also dim with a dingy look. The lobby was beautiful but once you rounded the corner, you saw the real hotel. A place that needed some legitimate work done. We brought up the room issues with the front desk in person after being placed on hold for 20min with no response. One person gave us 4 drink vouchers, but I don’t really drink. They offered free breakfast but we were leaving before breakfast started. We brought up the issues to the staff the next morning at checkout and we were dismissed or they clearly knew and did not care. I’m disappointed in this hotel for the money we spent. It wasn’t worth the cost.
This is the first thing that comes to mind when you think St. Andrews so why would you stay anywhere else? It's a really nice hotel, the staff is great, the location perfect for walking most places and we found it very quiet in September as there were no kids. One thing we would change is we booked the best price rate meaning you don't get the nicest rooms. It was still very nice, but we did notice the carpet was stained and buckling. A couple of other general comments I'd have is the elevators are slow so we took the stairs, and their toilet paper felt more like sand paper you'd get from a dollar store.
The landmark Algonquin Resort is parked in the quaint town of St. Andrews By The Sea in New Brunswick. The red-roofed Tudor-styled facade impressively greeted me as I entered the property on my East Coast jaunt of Canada. Packed with perks including: spiffy accommodations, modern dining venues, indoor and outdoor pools, waterworks, rooftop patio, a bevy of event space, pretty walking paths and the highlight, the phenominal golf course........this place is loaded with amenities. My garden patio room afforded beautiful landscape and water views. A modern aura, the decor embraced a traditional style with high ceilings, a grandiose headboard and a cozy sitting area. The bath was supersized and super modern. The Resort's signature eatery, Braxton's Restaurant & Bar, serves a menu for all meal dayparts in a locally inspired format of fresh seafood and locally sourced ingredients........my seafood chowder and scallops were incredible. So, if you are looking for a family oriented, down east friendly, activity bound resort.......then try the ........Algonquin Resort St. Andrews By The Sea.............. .......An Iconic Resort.
NO customer service, a complete money grab and pretentious waste of time in a dated and no longer charming old spot. Housekeeping showed up at 7:10 pm in a group of three to freshen up the room?! No information on facilities, staff tried to deter us from going to the more casual dining pub downstairs - even told us it was not open. really poor. Food was over-priced and under quality.
This is a beautiful hotel, a historic hotel in great shape. The property is large and very pretty. On the second floor there is an outside viewing area with a garden containing green peppers and cherry tomatoes. They have an outdoor pool, and an indoor one with a waterslide. Rooms are nice, with a balcony, but the bathroom could have been bigger. They have a small gift shop. Staff are helpful. The hotel could use more elevators. The food there was AMAZING, great breakfast (with an omelet station) and dinner. Would love to go back!
Historic hotel overlooking picturesque St.Andrews. We had an upgraded “water view room”. Room was OK except for the bathroom. Toiled didn’t flush upon our arrival and had to be snaked. Shower had disgusting mold/scum inside and out. Inadequate soap and linens (no floor mat). Carpeting in hallways and guest rooms needs replacing which I understand the hotel has planned. Staff was overall pleasant and responsive. Given the issues, definitely not worth the money spent for this stay.
Beautiful resort, great service. Grounds are gorgeous! Pub food good, main restaurant food didn’t appeal to us. We got breakfast in town because the choices at the resort didn’t appeal to us. Our room got quite warm through the night and we tried adjusting the temperature but didn’t work.
Not good we didnt like at all our room . The first room was verry small and was facing a wall off brick. We asked for and other room was pretty much the same. Then they proposed a biger room with a King size bed. But when we wanted to relax after 5 hours drive. We coulndt because the sheets had some hairs on them. We then discover the matress protection was a piece off rag. All big yellow stain... only good for garbage. The house keeper tooked some pictures off it. And us also. The pillow cases was the same. The under bed had 4 empty bags off chips. We were exausted ....and extreemly desapointed The manager mr Ben offfer us to refund 1 day. But when he found out that we reserved with hotel .com he then changed his mind And said it wasnt possible. Instead he offer us one free aditional night. Instead he offered us our breakfest and dinner for the rest our stay. He honourd at first . But then after he starded to say its only good for one person only. We were realy upset and desapointed The room.was also dirty with big black spot on the carpet. Molded shower . We end up wirh a room with a balcony wich was not better. With a verry loud sound coming from air condition the other room who kept us awake most off the night. Not to mention a rotten balcony with full excrement off birds and full off fether. This vacation was a night mare expérience. Aditional night was not a good compasation since it was all dirty and not confortable ... also not pleasent at all. I think our money back would be the only fair solution. I will send you some pictures on your demand Thank you Mrs Huguette Comeau and Roger Comeau.
The Algonquin Inn is very impressive looking and our room in the quieter back annex was very nice, clean and spacious, and had a good view toward the sea. The grounds are large and lovely with nice views to the sea below. We thought we would take a walk to the beach below, but, alas, below the hotel there is no hotel beach, there are private houses along the beach with not hotel beach access. The Algonquin is a very busy hotel, so the common rooms were very crowded and the line for breakfast was so long to wait that we just left the hotel and went elsewhere. Unlike the days of fine old hotels, the front desk staff seems to have very little knowledge about the area and there was no apparent concierge to help a little with route planning. We had a really fine dinner at an Inn down the road, but when we returned, there were no parking spots in the large lot behind the hotel and people were just putting cars everywhere. As pleasant as it appears, I would not return to this hotel when there are so many more gracious options available elsewhere.

I was amazed at the quality of this breakfast buffet. Everything on offer was made perfectly and there was a wide variety. We loved every bite.

After a wonderful dinner at Braxton's, the Algonquin's breakfast buffet was disappointing. We had to wait to be seated despite plenty of cleared tables. (A manager stepped in and got things going.) Except for the made-to-order omelette station, food looked tired, and the selection was surprisingly limited (very little fresh fruit, for example). Service was very pleasant. We were lucky to be seated on the enclosed verandah with great views. Some folks were seated in one of Braxton's rooms.
