my friends and I visited Monday after the herb festival and had the best food of our whole trip at Chestnut! they had the Eggs Benedict and I chose the burger gluten free. all our meals were amazing and the care our waitress put into asking about my gluten issues was so appreciated! I do believe it was the best gluten free burger fries and cheese tots I have eaten ever! Thank you so much for taking the time and going the extra mile for those of us with Celiac. Crystal ( I hope that's right, my mind is old lol)was truly awesome and everyone needs to experience this place and her! 500 stars!!

Have been dining at Chestnut for years and 2 of my children worked here.. Has always been excellent. Very disappointed in lunch today. Took a friend here for her first time. We both had the Biltmore Special ( not sure about name) eggs, toast.side. Friend order her meal with dry toast(no butter) and eggs scrambled.
Manager brought out the food. Toast had been buttered. Due to her dietary needs she asked the manager to return the toast and bring as ordered. Manager actually questioned whether the toast was buttered or not. She reluctantly took it and brought out the correct order of dry toast which was not even sliced in half like the first toast.
Friend started her meal and mentioned the eggs were very salty. She eventually asked me to taste them to see if I thought they were salty. I tasted them and they tasted very strange. Tasted fishy to me and made me think the eggs were bad. The eggs with my order tasted just fine. We asked that they be returned to kitchen and have the cook taste. The manager actually came back and said well the cook said they just taste like eggs to them.
I assure you they tasted very strange.
I have worked in restaurant business for over 40 years and have to say the manager epically failed in her job. She tried to make my friend appear as though she was a lair on both issues with her meal. When she finally offered to correct her meal she was anything but apologetic.
The manager clearly needs to be retrained on how to handle guest issues.
Very, very disappointed!

Elote soup was delicious, as well as red velvet sundae and pork. Lasagna was unfortunately very small portion and cold.Almost like a cracker with cheese and ground beef on it. Male server was amazing

We would not return. This place is way too expensive for the quality of food received.
The halibut was dry and overcooked; the vegetables were its best part. The "half chicken" is the bottom half, dark meat only, and the menu didn't specify. The carrots that came with the chicken were undercooked and a fork wouldn't even pierce them. The braised beef was also dry despite having a sauce. The ramen was the best entree of the four. The waitress was kind and service was good, but she was clearly uninterested and apathetic or really upset about something. We felt for her.

Went and had dinner here with my daughter on 12/27-Cute enough place and our server was great… we both ordered the steak special and I’m here to tell you it was tough, fatty and ..well…disgusting .. soup was ok… dessert was also a bomb.. meaning .. not good at all… what a total waste of money…will not be returning…

Excellent ambience and service. Wish the portions were a tad bigger. Nice place for a dinner.

Went for brunch after receiving a gift voucher. Made an online reservation and sat next to the windows looking out onto the street. Friendly waitress, but the food was hit and miss. The soup of the day was outstanding (I think it was smoked broccoli and Parmesan), but the pork belly eggs Benedict was average, and my partner ordered the breakfast sandwich which was sub-bar. So neutral overall.

Ordered a Caesar salad and duck cassoulet. Salad came out two seconds after ordering and tasted like it had been sitting around the kitchen all night. Dressing was bland, no flavor, the Parmesan bowl it was served in was stale. A $15 dollar Caesar can’t be this awful, sorry. Cassoulet was better, but the duck was super dry and just not cooked well. Again, charge people $45 for a dish, cook it right please. Like so many restaurants in Asheville these days, high prices, very average food. Service was just whatever as well. Been eating at chestnut since 2017 when the petite filet was $19, very disappointed with this experience. Messing up a Caesar salad is like burning toast. And serving salads that have been sitting out all night is gross. Be wary of chestnut these days, prices going up, food and service going down. I won’t be visiting Chestnut anymore, that was rough.

Ordered Salmon and after 35 minutes I asked the server to check on my dinner, she got nasty, told me the restaurant was busy and walked away. After that-she wouldn't communicate with us for the rest of the evening.
The food was average and overrated. The Ceaser salad wasn't fresh and the Parmesan crust was stale and rubbery. I ordered the Salmon medium and it was well done.
What a disappointing experience!!

Unfortunately after hearing so many good things I made the mistake of bringing an out of town guest my first time there. I ordered duck, and she got fish. My duck looked like it was cooked nicely, pink in the middle, but it wasn't tender at all. I was very surprised by that and disappointed as I love duck and have yet to find any great duck dishes in Asheville. We also ordered the fried green tomatoes. It looked impressive, stacked with what looked like a flavorful tomato-based sauce between each slice. There was no flavor when we dug in, just like there was no flavor in either of our dishes. I felt like this was food I could have cooked at home but hopefully done better job. When I asked my friend if her food was good, she just kind of shrugged her shoulders. Not the kind of memories I wanted to make with my visitor.

Was really looking forward to trying them out...the menu sounded amazing. Started with the mushroom dust scallops. They were cooked perfect but were inconsistent in appearance and all I could taste was salt. The salad it came with was good. Next we ordered the cassoulette and again over salted. The duck skin was so salty I couldn't eat it. The veggies were good. An over all disapointing meal. The service was friendly.

Staff was very friendly, service was quick but we did not feel rushed at all. We had the lobster bisque (5/5), calamari salad (5/5), summer squash ravioli (4/5), and the Pavlova for dessert (5/5). Highly recommend this place for a special night out!
