Taco Temple in Asheville offers a decent dining experience with a variety of meal options. The chips and guacamole, featuring large chunks of avocado, are fresh and plentiful. Customers can try the barbacoa tacos with their stew-like flavor or the mahi tacos, although some may find them a bit dry. The avocado torta is highly recommended. Prices are average, making it a reasonable choice. A drive-through option is available.
Taco Temple retains the same focus on homemade Mexican eats as its sister restaurant Mamacita's. The offerings are a bit fancier than a typical taco joint but not to the point of pretentiousness. Customers can enjoy a cool vibe, including a vintage Corona machine, in the smallish space. The homemade blue corn tortillas are a highlight, and the tacos deliver distinct flavors, such as the spicy and tangy loreto (tangerine-pasilla shrimp) and the smoky and slightly sweet Santa Barbara (ancho-brown sugar rubbed steak). The chips, guacamole, and tomatillo salsa are solid complements to the meal.
Taco Temple may or may not make you a convert, but it's worth at least one pilgrimage. The food is fresh and delicious, and the drive-up window makes take-out so easy. Customers can bring their dogs and sit on the covered patio.
