I wandered into this bar several years while stumbling around between breweries. I stopped in, a member took a risk on me as a guest and then I got my own membership. The lighting is dark. The beer is cold. And they've got a small, but mighty brown liquor selection. Every year, I come back to Asheville for a conference and stop in. And every year, the bartender/owner and I catch up and talk trash.

Very bad experience with the woman behind the counter, she doesn’t seem fit to work at that place. Will not go back.
The owner is the sweetest old lady you'll ever meet. She has dementia and always brings in her puppy who loves belly rubs. Sometimes if you're nice enough they'll give you a complimentary drink on your way out. Great place for tourist to check out.
fina and cozy atmosphere for locals.

Where to even begin... The Prospect is truly a special place and has become my haven, happy place, community center, and second home for both me and my older dog, Penelope. As a local who has been coming here for years, I have made so many close friends who are now a huge part of my life. I am grateful to have a local-only spot with great drinks, and the environment is welcoming and safe, as you can join in on a game of pool or backgammon, and strike up a conversation with pretty much anyone. The owners, RyAnn and Phil, have both become family to me and have been with me through many years of ups and downs, good days and hard days. They will never know how huge of an impact they, as individuals, have had on me. As I am writing this, Ry is setting up my going away party at the bar and has spent a lot of time coordinating and preparing. She has a very big heart, and for whoever is reading this, I hope that you're lucky enough to meet her and share a genuine conversation when you come to the Prospect! I can not recommend this place enough if you are a local who is looking for your new neighborhood bar where you can make some new friends or just sit outside at a picnic table and read a book in the sunshine with a beer [especially if you're in the service industry and need a place to decompress after working downtown]. 10/10 <3

Asheville's actual best kept secret. If you read this, do not tell anyone else but come hangout with the best people on earth. Their customers are pretty great too.

I’ve never been bullied by a woman bar owner in my life until coming here. The reviews are all correct, this woman was abhorrent. Coming from a dive bartender I would and have never treated anyone the way she treated me last night. Don’t go here, it’s not even cool even IF the atmosphere was fun, but it’s not.

Great place for members. The bar is clean and the pool table is in great condition. The bathrooms are clean as well. The bartenders are always in good spirits. The patio, tables, and outdoor area is always well kept.

A gem!
I have been going to this bar for almost a decade. The amount of love, support and life advice that I have received from the owners; Phil and RyAnn, has made me into the woman I am today. I cannot even put it into words. That being said, this is a locals bar only!! If you come here with someone who is a member be respectful of the regulars, owners and the property. But most importantly if you’re new here, don’t pet the dog lol

Worst experience at a bar….ever.
Super Drunk owner/bartender that couldn’t express coherent thoughts. Probably the worst bartenders I’ve ever encountered.
I used to like this place. RyAnn's a terrible business owner. I won't be back.
Fun hiden spot. Staff is great.
gross. i came here with my partner and the bartender questioned their ID , because of the gender identity. i understand it is a bartenders job to make check the validity of a persons ID, however it is never someone’s job to question someone’s gender identity and make them feel marginalized and excluded. will not be returning. also the way they the drinks was unsanitary. ?
