On my way back to Greenville, SC I needed to stop and grab something to eat. It was between Subway or this restaurant next to it that caught my eye called, Zella’s. I ordered the pastrami Philly and it was the best sandwich I’ve ever had in my life. The thick seasoned pastrami coupled with some secret sauce that may or may not have had some cheese in it, some bell pepper, and maybe some spicy sun-dried tomatoes— something I wouldn’t be a massive fan of, but it worked! The sandwich with a side of homemade barbecue potato sins was pure magic and I highly recommend

So excited that Swannanoa now has the PERFECT lunch spot! Actually breakfast and dinner not excluded 😆 A must try!! Excellent service. Everything being house made shined through-from the breads to the house fried chips, to the perfectly brined pickle to the fresh cucumber salad to the seasonal pies. We loved the locally made hot sauce options like blueberry jalapeño and banana buffalo too. We'll definitely be returning!

In my opinion, these are the best subs in the Asheville area. No doubt. The Italian is phenomenal. So good. Bread is fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised to find something that rivaled White House Subs in Atlantic City, NJ. (That's still my #1, but this is a close second.) We also got the Chopped Cheese sub and it was delicious. So good that I had to get one for myself the next day. Chips that come with the meal were really good. Seasoned. Crunchy. I'll take fresh chips like that any day over a bag of some national brand. That said, I could use a little more seasoning. We also got fries because we didn't know the subs came with chips. Fries were perfect. Also seasoned well, and crisp. Actually, crisp on the outside, but soft on the inside. Every single fry was perfect and not greasy or soft. I'm gonna be back again and again.

Phenomenal, my favorite meal in a long time and we eat out every day. The only thing that came close to outshining the food (chicken marsala, reuben, and bolognese/alfredo for the kids) was the service, Ben had a 1000 watt personality and went WELL out of his way to make us all feel at home. I can’t fathom what others are bitching about, it was excellent by every measure. And we fed our family of 4 for $45- with leftovers to boot? Screw the naysayers, come check it out, I’ll probably be camped out there myself. I almost forgot- the best meatball I’ve ever had, and honestly so was the marsala.
Kid-friendliness: kids portions were the size of LARGE adult portions and were less than $5 a plate, I almost don’t wanna tell anyone and ruin what must be a stroke of good luck to find a place that will consistently please the whole family.

Had an incredible chef’s salad at Zella’s today. Different from any I have ever had. Not only was food great, the staff was friendly and helpful. And hats off to the owner for not only having a fabulous eatery, but also is invested in our community with a generous donation to local non profit serving low income neighbors with home repairs.

The new location seemed level this spot up some. Love the indoor and outdoor space. It does a great job looking old-school, but also clean. Lots of character.
We got another pastrami as well as a Caprese and Caesar salad. It’s quite expensive to add prosciutto to the Caprese and I wouldn’t recommend it for the amount you get and the price you pay. The Caprese honestly is quite delicious by itself so I would rather just get a different sandwich or stick to the vegetarian option.
Each sandwich is served with a few Housemade chips. The chips are really wonderful, but a very tiny quantity. It was a little interesting because I only had like six of them but my partner had like 15. Doesn’t really seem to be a standard – it’s really more like what your sandwich fits and what they grab.
The Caesar salad is wonderful and the croutons and flavor have much improved. The server was kind enough to split it into us without us asking. The ranch as well as the Caesar tastes like homemade.
They definitely take their time here so don’t come in a rush. I actually like that about the spot. The workers are very kind as well.
I like that they have some affordable lunch specials and it feels like that’s probably the way to go.
