We traveled to Black Mountain for the day from a weekend stay in Weaverville. Popped in to the Trailhead for lunch and so glad we did. Everything we ordered was delicious, wait staff helpful and friendly. Husband got one of the burgers and house cut fries, I chose the beer battered fried chicken breast drizzled with honey and their beer battered onion rings. We started with their nachos for appetizer. Prices super reasonable for the amount of food you received. Nearby patrons ordered the fish and chips and it was a massive amount of fish and looked delicious as well.
The food was delicious! Emma was a delightful server. The food was almost an hour coming out. We had a hamburger with yummy onion rings!
My husband ordered the 1/2 pound burger, perfectly cooked, and was glad to have the option of having a salad for the side instead of fries. I had a salad with chicken (grilled, just right), full of carrots, avocado; both meals were simply delicious! Great service and outside dining was a treat for a cool night dinner. Glad the hotel provided us with a list of local restaurants and we selected The Trailhead Restaurant & Bar!
If you are in Black Mountain on a Monday night, you will find only one or two restaurants open. Don't dismay. The Trail Head was great. It was packed and the service and food was great. If you can't get a table, sit at the bar and enjoy your meal. We had the special sweet potato /corn chowder and mussels that were really special.
they never answer the phones for togo, regardless of how “busy” they are. so you are forced to go in to place an order. they will tell you it’s going to take over 30 closer to 45 minutes. in reality your food is ready in 10 and they just have it sitting there to rot while you wait for the time they told you. if you want to pick up a cold and old togo dinner this is your place! if you want any kind of decent service go absolutely anywhere else.
I was treated to an amazing dinner. I enjoyed the fish and chips. That was the best fish and chip I had ever had. The people there were great and staff was as well. I full intend on bringing my husband there.
Great food and excellent service. Stays open later for dinner. Gluten free food available and staff knowledgeable about cross contamination. Highly recommend
On our way to Waynesville, we stopped here because we were hungry, and we have (adorable) dogs. This restaurant was recommended on Bring Fido and highly rated on yelp, so we thought we’d give it a try. Good choice! A variety of delicious foods I wanted to eat and good drinks. My husband had the special, which was a Cajun dish with crawfish and andouille sausage over cheesy grits, and I had jambalaya and the famous onion rings. Everything was delicious and very reasonably priced. Jackson, our waiter, was friendly and efficient and brought our dogs water right away. The restaurant was crowded and had a little bit of a wait on a gorgeous Thursday night, but the wait and was worth it, and we will come here again. We have been to Black Mountain many times, but it was particularly charming tonight, so we will make a return visit during our stay here.
Absolutely awesome! Great service by Heather and off the chain onion rings, fries and the Trailhead Burger!! A don’t miss place in beautiful Black Mountain!!!
This is great casual dining spot in Black Mountain. Having looked at menu of other restaurants in town it was refreshing to find somewhere that was more laid back. If you'd like to try local beer this is the place to go. We had to wait approx. 10 to 15 mins for a table but we didn't mind. If there is space you are able to sit at the bar whilst waiting. There is a good selection of meals on the dinner menu so you're likely to find at least one dish you will enjoy. The portions were on the larger side and good value. The service was good with attentive and friendly waitstaff. The atmosphere in the restaurant and food was enjoyable so we went back for a second night during our short stay.

Super fun spot. waitstaff were great and attentive. Food was delicious and the dark and stormy was refreshing. We'll be back.
Terrible, aggressive, discriminatory, rude staff. If you treasure diversity, tolerance, common courtesy, a clear seating system that is fair to everybody, and service that is not selective and is polite, this is not your place. Do yourself a favor and read all the 1 and 2 star reviews here and on Google. These reviewers didn't lie. Our experience matched their worst experiences. Any other place in Black Mountain is preferable to this one.
The food was good and the servings were large. I had the nachos which were pretty good and my son had the fish which he really enjoyed. I was disappointed bc they were out of some of their drinks I wanted to try. Overall, it’s worth a visit. It seems like one of the more livelier places in town.
Black Mountain was a half way point to celebrate some family birthdays. Our son was running behind schedule so we sat at the bar for some drinks and an appetizer. The bar had chambord for my favorite drink, yea! The staff were accommodating in having our name on the list and moving us to a table in time for our sons arrival. All the food was excellent and there were gluten free options for 2 family members. Prices were very reasonable. This is a casual, laid back, local eatery. If you are looking to sit and relax, this is the spot for you. If you are looking for fast food, go elsewhere.
Until today (Saturday, December 28, 2024), we considered this place to be one of the best casual restaurants in Black Mtn. But today, two our of four food orders were not correct; neither the onion rings nor French fries were anywhere need as good as in the past; the hamburger buns were stale and cold (not buttered and placed on the grill for a bit of searing before serving). This is totally unacceptable. Since we were among the very first people there, it was not because of being too busy. This decline in quality and attention to detail is because there was a poor cook today who cared little about what is served from his or her kitchen, and/or management is not doing its job in monitoring what is served here. We may try again in the future, but we are not eager to go back.
