My out of town guests had bad experiences here but I never had and ordered a simple takeout salad. Fifty minutes later, I was still waiting for the order despite the restaurant not being crowded. I cancelled the ordered and slipped on a wet floor with no warning sign posted on my way out. Patrons helped me up but no one from the restaurant offered any assistance. I will not be returning.

Great food, excellent service! Will definitely be back. Had the Trailhead Burger and it was cooked perfectly and the fresh cut fries were amazing!

I had the Trailhead burger with a salad and huge order of onion rings and 2 ice cold beers. Large portions at a very reasonable price and great quality. They have outdoor seating on the deck which I really like too!

This place was packed for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon and the hostess warned us that the kitchen was backed up but we weren't in a rush. My husband had to try the deep fried pickle appetizer which he enjoyed. I asked the server for gluten free options and she was very helpful. When she said they get their gluten free buns made in an Ashville bakery I ordered the Beacon Heights sandwich. It was a BLT with avocado and a special sauce and the best gluten free sandwich I've ever had. It usually comes with fries but they don't have a dedicated fryer so she suggested a side salad which was fresh and tasty. With seating indoors and out this casual eatery is a best bet.

Located in the charming town of Black Mountain that serves affordable food..all homemade from local ingredients. Many gluten free items.Super friendly staff . Seating indoors and out.Started with Beer Pickle Spears which are Ale Battered with homemade ranch. Very good..not too greasy. Also tried The Gully Creek which were 2 grilled Mahi Mahi seasoned with Jerk sauce topped with Mango Salsa,Caribbean Slaw and cilantro served with black beans and chips. Good portion size and very favorable. My wife had The Beacon Heights on gluten free bread which was basically a BLT. She thought it was one of the best Gluten Free sandwiches she had ever had! When driving to or from Asheville/Charlotte..stop in and enjoy some real good home cooking

A good family and budget-friendly place to eat in Black Mountain. During the season expect to wait 10 to 30 minutes around dinner time. The place is busy because the prices are the best in town, with the exception of Ole Guacamole, which is very similar just serving Mex instead of standard American fare. That said, the food at The Trailhead is marginal. Some of the menu is great, such as the Mahi Mahi and and the fish and chips, but the burgers are inedible. My wife and I have eaten there about 20 times in the past two years and it's hit or miss. The burgers last night were undercooked, cold and bland. We actually brought them home and gave them to the dogs. We also had the nachos, which were also inedible. How do you make bad nachos .... ? a mystery. Somehow The Trailhead has that secret recipe. For burgers The Grange is much better, but it has so many children running around it's like being at a daycare. Railyard also has better burgers, but again the kid thing/daycare vibe with screaming, etc., spoils it. If you want good food and ambiance The Bush and La Guinguette are the go-tos. You'll pay about 30% more but you'll get great food in a mellow environment.

While Trailhead has been in Black Mountain forever, there are better places to grab dinner. Generally overcrowded, food to okay at best. Always a nice wait staff.

This place was very good. We stopped in here on a whim and were pleasantly surprised. I ordered the ahi tuna sandwich and it was very good. Tuna tasted fresh and all the ingredients paired well together. We also ordered the onion rings and you can definitely tell they are made in house. They were messy but worth it

Great local hang in Black Mountain. Very friendly staff and solid food, served up in a spacious and casual room. Chili with baguette was epic, but trout on kale salad was a bit less spectacular.
