Coming from Miami it’s hard to find outstanding restaurants. I’ve eaten a lot of sushi in my life and I have to say this is a really good sushi restaurant. It surprised me. The first couple pieces of sashimi I ordered came up beautiful clean fish well cut not mangled. The wasabi was fresh. They make their own Miksu dressing. I may have had to wait a little bit for my food because it was so busy there. But in a good sushi restaurant busy means fresh and they’re taking their time to make sure that the sushi comes out properly. my server was amazing. He always made sure our glasses were full. Because the sushi was so good. I asked for a couple more pieces( at chef’s choice.) He did not disappoint. He had smoked chard sushi under glass for me and it was amazing. I Highly recommend this restaurant. The ambience is busy, but the food does not disappoint. just be patient and enjoy your time. 🙏🏻

Great experience! Had the Mixed Tempura, Sushi/Sashimi Combo, Master Roll, Super Whitefish (Escolar) nigiri, Sapporo beer, Mango & Strawberry Mochi Ice Cream, Green Tea Ice Cream, and Ginger Ice Cream. I wish the ginger ice cream had more ginger as its current ginger taste is very subtle, but it was still delicious. Service was great too, and I regret not remembering the waiter's name!

I come here once a week so figured I'd leave a review. Always an awesome experience with good service, good Asian beer, and great sushi.

I've been to this place a couple of times now and somehow neglected to write a review. It was recommended by a colleague of mine, which I'm grateful for as I likely would not have stumbled across it on my own.

This is the place where I discovered the wonderful world of sushi burritos. I've not seen such a concept in any other sushi restaurant and this is now my go to whenever I come here.

We started by sharing the deluxe appetizer sampler, of which the shiitake mushroom tempura was my favorite. I couldn't really tell what the sauces were that accompanied it but they were ok.

I've now had the double trouble sushi burrito twice, the full size of course. The combination of tuna and salmon together with avocado, cucumber, masago, and a side of spicy sauce is the perfect blend. I can recall having to order a second cup of the spicy sauce, it was that good!

Love coming here. Great sushi, great service and a great environment.

Best sushi around!
Their online ordering is stellar and almost always on time with their estimates. And even if there is a line out the door, it's honestly worth the wait!

Dietary restrictions: They will work with you on dietary requests!

Parking: Parking behind the restaurant and across the street if the car shop is closed but those spaces are pretty limited. Another lot on Weaver Street.

Kid-friendliness: Carrboro is kid-friendly pretty much everywhere.

Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp! The entryway corner is a little tricky if there are a lot of people in line but no one has ever been rude if I have said excuse me!

Would love it if they had sake cups for the sake. It’s small and when they have a piano player it is very loud. They should have Japanese music playing. Other than that , delicious.

We ordered WAY TOO MUCH but it was so good and very fresh. The restaurant was cute and our server was very friendly. The rolls came out relatively quickly and the prices were reasonable. Will definitely go back.

We have been dining at this place for nearly ten years. For many years, we would go and sit at our favorite spot at the bar with our five year old daughter. As a result, our daughter grew up to love sushi. She just celebrated her 17th birthday yesterday. When asked what she wanted for dinner, she said Akai Hana take outake out for her and her friends. Thank you Akai Hana for providing a great place to eat with fantastic service on a consistent basis!

We love this restaurant and it’s been consistently excellent for many years. A local treasure!

Vegetarian options: They have a limited number of vegetarian options, but these are excellent, especially the harvest roll

Dietary restrictions: When sharing sushi, they will put items with allergens for your party on separate plates.

The best sushi you’re going to find in the suburbs west of Raleigh.

Excellent in all areas; quality food products, attention to preparation details, and artful presentation. A smaller restaurant, where patrons are in closer quarters. But with the first bite, who cares!
