First impressions were great the location is charming, and the front porch has a relaxing, welcoming vibe. It’s the kind of spot you could sit at for a while and unwind.
Unfortunately, the coffee itself didn’t live up to the hype. My wife and I were excited to try their specialty drinks and ordered the Banana Bread Latte and Nutella Mocha Latte. Both were just okay. They lacked flavor, and despite asking for regular sweetness, they weren’t sweet. The coffee had a slightly off taste that just didn’t sit right with us, which was disappointing after seeing so many positive reviews. The coffee had a sour taste for us.
On the bright side, the customer service was great the cashier was friendly.
Parking is a challenge here. The back lot is very small and tight, making it difficult to get in and out. You’re honestly better off parking across the street and walking over.
Overall, while the atmosphere was definitely a highlight, the drinks missed the mark for us.

I only come for their Pistachio croissant bc it’s REALLY good although pricey for a croissant. They have recently changed the quantity of the pistachio in the croissant to a table spoon scoop. I can’t justify paying $8 for one croissant that has half a table spoon of pistachio filling. That’s a scam. Lovely customer service.

Banana bread latte was fabulous. Seasonal pistachio baklava latte was also great, but be prepared to have a mouthful of crushed nuts on your first couple of sips. No complaints, just an initial surprise. But the bits of crunchy, salty pistachios were actually kind of great and the salt didn't affect the drink at all.

Love this place! The staff is always so kind and nice, the drinks are delicious, and the fact that it’s a refurbished home is something I find so cool and interesting. Their drinks are so unique and they have flavors I have yet to find at another coffee shop.
Staple coffee place. Great local pick. And you get a little ducky with your drink!
I usually get the matcha latte with strawberry puree, cold brew, and I just recently tried the Banana Bread Latte (yum).
The best seating is outside, but they do have tables inside and on the covered porch as well. Keep in mind that the line may be long on weekends and parking is limited!

the pistachio baklava latte was so good. TK is everything you could want in a proprietor ( friendly! helpful! generous!) I found this beloved neighborhood coffeehouse by looking online. I wanted somewhere I would feel comfortable lounging ( comfortable chairs and various rooms/spaces, warm, good zibe) and working. I was not looking for a sleek sterile coffeehouse. I loved it that people can draw or write on the walls and that even though this was done with sharpies, I didn't see any evidence of ill will or critiquing if others. I was offered a sharpie myself not long after I arrived. what a great place! I'll be back whenever I pass through Charlotte. did I mention that the pistachio baklava latte was delicious? real pistachios! just right sweetness.
Wonderful first experience today. Great staff, AMAZING coffee. So good we went back for a second order before leaving! Will definitely be back :)

My wife and I were looking for a local coffee shop while passing through town and we stumbled upon Backyard Brew. The reviews are spot on! The person taking our order was the best and made many suggestions for us to try. We went with the Banana Bread Latte and the Nutella Hot Chocolate. Both were fabulous! We will definitely be back again!

I of course come for the caffeine and coffee flavor, but the atmosphere and personable experience with the staff is what keeps me coming back. Every time I bring a friend along, they catch the Backyard Brew bug too!
