Coco and the Director is tucked into the lobby of the Charlotte Marriott City Center, but absolutely don't let that be a reason to pass it by. This is a proper coffee shop, not a hotel afterthought. It offers a full spectrum of coffees from classic drip to espresso drinks with flair longside fresh-baked pastries, sandwiches, and grab-and-go snacks that feel curated rather than generic.
The space itself is a pleasant surprise: warm wood tones, industrial lighting, and a mezzanine-style loft that invites lingering. There's a communal table for laptop warriors, cozy nooks for quiet chats, and even a small stage that occasionally hosts local performers or spoken word events. It's a place that feels like it belongs to the city, not just its visitors.
Service is friendly and efficient, with baristas who know their beans and if it's not too busy, don't mind chatting about roast profiles or local sourcing. The vibe is relaxed but purposeful. This morning, it was ideal for some folks to have a morning meet-up at some tables. I had a comfy seat in the mezzanine area with my laptop to warm up with a drip coffee and watch the goings on.
Whether you're staying at the hotel or just wandering around Uptown, Coco and the Director earns its place.

Coco and the Director is a trendy coffee shop offering expertly crafted coffee and a cozy, inviting atmosphere. The drinks are rich and flavorful, and the staff are friendly and attentive. A great spot to relax, work, or catch up with friends over quality coffee.

Exceptional service from the team. Completely satisfied with my experience.
No pour over made anymore. Drink (flat white) suggests they are not calibrating their espresso pulls. Great space, not great coffee, can’t speak to food.
Every cup is a little masterpiece; can’t get enough of their brews

Cappuccino was delicious and the pumpkin cronut was amazing. Had to share it with my sister in law because it was a good size. Overall, definitely recommend!

Very unsettling experience to watch the red/orange-haired barista/staff speak so insensitively to a paying customer. A man asked for his pastry to be heated up and she mentioned she could not since he had already touched it. Completely fair.
But he had also mentioned it was not the one he asked for in the first place and instead of replacing it, she rudely and loudly interrogated him. “Was it free or did you pay for it?” He said it was paid for and she responded “by you or someone else?” Why would that ever matter??
She spoke to him in an inhumane way and didn’t even seem to care who heard. Disgusting
This is probably my first one star review ever, but I went to order a coffee and a pastry for a new friend I made. The coffee was a coffee with milk- nothing requiring anything fancy and I was given the warmed up pastry within 2 minutes of order. I went over to the line like an obedient customer and waited over 10 minutes, realizing that I was forgotten about- while 3 staff members scurried about helping everyone else. After approaching a staff member and asking them for the coffee, it was in my hand in 45 seconds. The coffee was obtained with an arms length of the cashier. I paid over $10 for this. I'm sure maybe they make some good stuff but based on this experience, I felt terrible enough walking out the door to take a couple minutes to write this review. Actually, I spent less time writing this than I stood waiting for a coffee that I had to remind them I purchased from them.
Horrible customer service
Hands downs one of the best coffees and breakfast sandwiches we have ever had. The staff were super friendly and the place was so nice to just take in while we waited for our food.
