While I’d really like to give this place a higher rating, I just don’t feel like it’s deserving of it. I visited the establishment on a Saturday for my son congratulatory work promotion celebration. Being this was my first time going I was sorta of clueless as to how things work.
1. I feel it is highly unsanitary for a food establishment to put open air food on a counter for many people to walk up to it and breathe over your food while looking for their name! Covid and other strands of viruses are still lurking our area tremendously!
2. The lady taking my order gave me sauce instead of wings (which I ordered) and then charge my 20.19 for wings that were clearly priced as 14$. I had an open tab (would not ever do that again) and so I have since seen multiple charges to account that I clearly did not make. The wings my guy got (buffalo) was extremely salty and my salad dressing was extremely vinegary! We were not happy with the food at all but did not complain to management. Just figured it was a lost on our end and we would only go back for the drinks. We decided to leave so that the guy could watch a different football game (Florida State).
However, then that evening I noticed all the extra charges on my account for food I did not order because I clearly wasn’t not there anymore! Problem #3!
3. I drove back to the establishment in hopes to rectify the situation without involving the bank. But to my surprise, I check my account again and now they’ve added more charges!! This is absurd and extremely unfair to me when I clearly wasn’t even at the establishment when the charges were made. This is a lesson learned for me and absolutely will not be eating at this place ever again. I tried to do what was right but that didn’t work!
Not a satisfied customer at all!
Amazing place to catch an OSU game or just grab a beer!
Beer...great! Space....great! Food...great! Damn, what more do you need!
A cool brewery with plenty of seating, events, pizza, beer, and pinball upstairs. I enjoyed it and I'd recommend it to anyone.
Good beer. Friendly staff
Beer was good and cold. Bartender was super friendly. Brewery is in the Lower South End easy walk to the Scalybark train stop. Lots of outside seating. Brewery and pizza joint. Interesting concept
Place smelled amazing!
After a disappointing visit to the real big brewery across the street from Protagonist, this place was better. Food-wise, it's just pizza here, but even by the slice its real damn good. Try the Lando Calrissian. Beer-wise, Bertha, their Vienna Lager, is a winner. Have at least a couple pints, it's worth it. Service and vibe were both good, too. Stools at the bar. Four-tops inside and outside. It's smaller than that mega-space across the street, but the intimacy is appreciated. Of course, good sticker merch here, too.
The pizza was really fresh and the sauce tasted good! Not to sound like a snob but being from NJ it is hard to find good pizza here. I had the gluten free pepperoni and it was actually really fresh and tasty. The only thing I would say is the gluten free pie is a small personal pie with only four slices which I wasn’t aware of.
Very cool spot. Outdoor seating, corn hole, private dining room adjacent to the pizza ovens. Tall guy on the Beer side was very knowledgable and helpful in finding the right beer. I only wish everyone would STOP doing Hazy Juicy EVERYTHING. I guess that's a sign of the times; get the beer done as quickly as possible rather than be patient and wait for a true IPA / DIPA. My only negative comment - The Pizza. It's really unique to have a 28" size, and very cool to see the "top four choices on the menu" available as a slice... BUT - Two of the people working in the pizza side were wearing giant over-ear headphones. I can only imagine how much they will sue the Owners when they get burned or injured working those hot deck ovens, etc... because they are allowed to wear them. Also, and more importantly, they have no Guest interaction skills and have to pull the headphones off when you speak to them. The slice of pizza took 16 minutes, and was below average. Really subpar ham on the Tommy Callahan. Like they went to Harris Teeter, bought Oscar Mayer sliced ham, and put in on a pizza. With seemingly 19 other "bougie" breweries on Olde Pineville Road, your food sb be much more solid. Food (Beer) for thought!
We’ve hosted 2 events here, and each one has been a seamless experience. Our guests always rave about the food, especially the pizza. The team has consistently been accommodating and responsive, making the planning process smooth and stress-free. We couldn’t be happier with the service, and we truly appreciate all the support.

Jeremy you are an absolute legend! I messed up my Uber order (two pizzas) and I couldnt change the address, so I had to cancel. I ordered again thinking I lost my previous order, but the ubereats showed up with three pizzas! And they were delicious! Thanks again!
Excellent vibe. Excellent drinks. Excellent food.
This was exactly the kind of pizza I've been craving. Perfectly crispy crust, hot cheese pull, and fresh toppings. Bonus points for cupping pepperonis. Good pizza, great pizza!!! Paired amazingly with a Mercury IPA.
Sunday Funday and a road trip stop. The beer (Dolly and Mercury), pizza, and pretzel were excellent!
Beers pretty solid but you can only order certain beers for pitchers. Pizza = trash.
