I’ve really wanted to write a great review for Puerta but every time I’ve gone back it’s just been disappointing. The first time I visited a few years back I was blown away by the cocktails, the food menu and especially their tres leches cake. It had been the best dessert I had tried in a while and I immediately fell in love with the restaurant. About a year after this experience we bring a friend, hyping up the experience because of our first visit. Well, the food that time wasn’t as great (I believe they got rid of some menus items that were fantastic). And then the grand finale, the tres leches cake had been completely changed in recipe to be gluten free which totally destroyed a masterpiece. As a Mexican, I was so disappointed to have to water something so beautiful down. Well, here I go again wanting to give Puerta another try because their IG posts always look great - this time around I bring my husband for the first time. His initial thoughts were that the prices were outrageous for 3 tacos. (Which yes, the tacos are overpriced). And lastly that the food was ok (not worth the 40 min drive into town we had made specifically for this place). Lastly, my tortillas that night were so hard as if they had been laying out for a day and then miserably reheated in the microwave before putting them onto my plate. I really wanted to love Puerta, their decor is beautiful but the food is very lackluster for the pricing.

The food was wonderful and the service was even better. If you're looking for a really neat place to check out and craving authentic Mexican food definitely check this place out. Food allergies don't seem to be a problem either My wife has celiac and she has not had any issues.

This place is open for lunch now and has a great menu with fast service. If you’re in the mood for something quick or a nice casual lunch date they have you covered.

We have been frequents since Puerta opened, but I figured after some stellar food tonight another review is due. Tonight we grabbed Tinga Flautas & Churros to go, and they were fantastic. Forgot to snap a photo, but the garnishes and toppings were perfect. The filling was phenomenal, and shells were crisp but not overdone. The churros were great as always with chocolate & dulce sauces, dusted in sugar and freshly fried. 10/10 experience, even take out. Grateful for the consistent customer service, no matter if you dine in or carry out.

We celebrated a birthday with dinner for 8. Our waiter greeted us enthusiastically, then disappeared. Apparently, they cut his shift and a while later another server appeared. It was a 40-minute wait for cocktails. Half the table was served dinner after 90 minutes, the other half had to wait another 15 minutes. Also, my $23 Cadillac Margarita didn't seem to have a trace of Grand Marnier. I approached the manager because I thought she'd like to understand our experience. Her response, in a snarky tone, was: What can I do for you right now? When service is bad, apologies go a long way. I guess that was too much for her. I was really disappointed because I have had such great experiences at Crunkleton.

Parking can be not as easy so give yourself time to find parking in and around the area.
Super tasty food in a cool Mexican inspired restaurant. It felt very Tulum.
We came here for brunch and enjoyed our food.
The dirty horchata was interesting. Queso fundido was very tasty and the tostadas that came with it where fresh!
The hamachi crudo was refreshing and light with bits of guacamole.
The papas con chorizo was delicious and spicy but not too spicy. It featured two eggs, chorizo, pico de gallo, crema and a few other ingredients I don’t remember, all on a base of crispy potato’s.
The churros came with two dipping sauces: dulce de leche and a spiced chocolate sauce.

We had an amazing last-minute dining experience at Puerta on Saturday. No reservation, so we sat at the bar, best decision ever because we met our new favorite bartender, Chase. He was fun, knowledgeable, and didn’t miss a beat. Drinks were perfectly balanced and delicious. Shoutout to Dee Dee and Tyler for being so friendly and making us feel right at home. For food, we had the empanadas (not traditional but tasty), queso, and the star of the night, the Para La Mesa with shredded beef cheek. Hands down the most tender meat I’ve ever had. Great presentation, great vibe. Highly recommend for elevated Mexican food!

Started with the lamb empanadas, which were hot on the outside but cold in the center and lacked flavor unless paired with the sauce. I had the chicken tinga tacos, but the filling tasted canned. My boyfriend ordered the chicken mole, which he enjoyed, though the rice on the side was disappointing. Overall, the food could use more seasoning, but the drinks were enjoyable.

It is not really worth this restaurant, the super high prices for the food they serve you do not have a good palate, they have no flavor, the lousy food would never go again and I do not recommend it either.

Did a walk in, seated at the bar. A completely wonderful experience. Chase, the bartender, was friggin' awesome. Steered us in the right direction several times throughout the night, from food to drink recommendations. (Give this guy a raise!) Got the chopped salad (delicious) and chicken mole (quite good). Dessert: Tres leches... nope. Quatro leches! Should be illegal in most states.
A truly delightful evening. Will return!

This was a tough one to rate. The food was good, but I don't feel the need to rush back to try other items. Everything just wasn't quite what I expected after hearing the hype over the past few months. The service and the atmosphere are fantastic, however. But the food left me feeling slightly disappointed for the price. I feel like we are spoiled for good mexican food in Charlotte, so it can be difficult to compare this elevated type of cuisine to any number of taquerias in Charlotte and rate Puerta higher than those spots. I'd rate Puerta 4.5/5 if I could.
