Taste of Soul: Plant based & Vegan Cuisine

Been on a mission to try this spot (from their posts) when we would make a trip to Charlotte from Burlington and it didn’t disappoint! Some of the BEST vegan food we’ve had! Here for 2 more days and will be going 2 more times 😋🤗 Updated from previous review on 2025-03-29

Everything they make is great. This is one of the best restaurants in the country.

SOOOOO good, I was falling OUT OF MY SEAT! Some of the best vegan food I have EVER had. The owner is SO sweet, she even gifted my bestfriend some peach cobbler because it was her birthday! Taking care of the community one meal at a time! GOD BLESS THIS

A really good vegan place to check out. Restaurant name speaks for itself cause these meals be hitting the soul every time. The flavors of the food is so incredibly good, I’d be here almost everyday they’re open if majority of the food was Alkaline. I come here on my cheat days where I eat non-alkaline vegan foods. But they do have a few items that are alkaline but definitely recommend this place cause yeah the food here is super delicious and the owners are very respectful and considerate.

Listen, I’m not even vegan, but Taste of Soul might just convert me! The food here is that good. Let’s talk about the Mac n Cheese first—it was hands-down my favorite. Cheesy, flavorful, and giving exactly what it was supposed to give.

We also tried the Short Rib Plate with black-eyed peas, rice, and (of course) more mac n cheese. Y’all… I don’t even know what that short rib was made out of, but I’ve never had fake meat that was so close to real meat and just as flavorful and juicy. I will be coming back just for that plate.

Lastly, we got the Crab Cake with mac n cheese and green beans. It was good, but compared to everything else, the crab cake didn’t quite hit the same. Still, no complaints overall because the meal was delicious.

Taste of Soul is definitely worth the visit. Vegan or not, this is where you need to be. I’ll be back for that short rib and mac n cheese combo—don’t judge me!

TSV!!! The food is always on point!!! I was hooked since the jerk Mac n Cheese bowl and that was years ago!!! I would attach a photo of the bbq ribs plate but...I ate it 🤤

First time having Taste of Soul and it was FIRE!! Had the crabless cake over cajun sauce and rice with baked beans and their veggie of the day. Definitely a must-have if/when in the Charlotte area and you want great plant based/vegan food. Also very pleased with the price for the amount of food received. Highly recommended!

Parking: Depending on the time of day, parking could be easier or more difficult, but still plenty of spaces overall

**Absolutely Amazing!**

Taste of Soul is hands down my favorite vegan restaurant in Charlotte! The vibrant and flavorful dishes truly give traditional soul food a delicious plant-based twist. I’ve tried the BBQ Jackfruit sliders, and they were simply irresistible! The balance of sweet and tangy flavors is perfection.

Their CheezBurger is another must-try—the cheez is rich and creamy, making it a satisfying meal. The baked mac and cheese is a standout as well; it’s creamy, cheesy, and downright comforting. And don’t get me started on the vegan oxtails—such a delightful surprise! They are packed with flavor and have a wonderfully hearty texture.

The atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. If you’re looking for tasty vegan comfort food, Taste of Soul is the place to go. I can't wait to come back and try more from their exciting menu!

I’ve tried several items here at different times to evaluate the quality of the food and service. I ordered the wings, chicken cheesesteak, green beans, ribs, and mac and cheese. The only items I really enjoyed were the cheesesteak and the green beans. Everything else was mediocre at best. The macaroni had no flavor; it was just noodles and vegan cheese.

The customer service could also use improvement. I visited multiple times at different times of the day, and the owner always had the same attitude. She isn’t friendly and doesn’t smile; she just stares at you as if you have a problem. When she calls your name to hand you the food, there’s no "thank you" or "have a great day." You have to prompt her to say anything. I won’t be returning, but I wish you all the best.

It’s my first time eating vegan food🌱 and I am definitely glad that I’ve came to the right place, the food was so amazingly delicious😊 and the customers service was excellent, I will definitely be back! Thank you guys..
