I made a weekend trip and drove 5 hours just to meet Tansey and try Instill rum. The cocktails are great here and the rum is probably the best I've ever had. I got several bottles to take home and i will have to come back! This is really a cool place and Tansey is an awesome man.
Super disappointing!! Drove all the way from Wake Forest to try this place out. No one there. Nothing posted outside, nothing on the website, open on Google. At least have the decency to post closure on website. Likely will not return.
Sounded great on the Internet, staff was awesome, tour was disappointing seeing the black scuzz in the corners and the dust behind things. It was gross inside the bathroom, it smelled like a homeless encampment. Looked like no has put effort in since it was built.
The most unique and well thought out cocktail menu I have ever seen at a distillery. Absolutely stellar. Crushin cocktails and atmosphere akin to a tiki bar were a huge plus. The rums were all killer and brought something completely new to the game. This will be my new weekend spot.
Some of the best drinks and people I’ve ever met.
The best Rum I have ever had. Amazing cocktails 🍹 with excellent service.
Stopped by just to taste and buy some rum. Unique tasting products. Friendly people. Worth a stop. Edit: the aged rum is note worthy! It is delicious enough to sip on its own or makes delicious drinks.
Amazing distillery with an awesome drink selection. Eric and his wife are such good hosts and treat everyone like they have known you forever. Highly recommend for anyone hanging out for an evening in the Raleigh area!
Guided tour with Eric was thorough and entertaining. Learned a lot about the history of rum including some of the politics linked to it. I highly recommend it, you won’t be disappointed. The rum is good and unique. I’m not a rum drinker but I will buy this rum and have it in hand for my friends who do drink rum and have a good story to tell about the distillery.
Great rum and even better people. A must stop in Clayton.

Painkiller and Hurricane are awesome! I'm definitely going to try the Chocolate El Presidente next time!
Great place. My wife and I had a Groupon and came to do a tasting. Ended up spending most of the night there chatting with the owner and patrons.
Do you like rum? Do you know what rum is? Do you know how rum is made and how to get the best out orum? To answer all these questions, you must stop by InStill Distilling Co. here in Clayton NC. Open atmosphere. The juke box nights are a great way for strangers to collaborate music together. The musical line up is always ready to please. Jeep Days during the warmer seasons are a local fave! The owner is a Veteran, Family man, friend, brother, goof ball and all round great dude! The staff are cheerful and fun. There are games to play; Jenga, darts, ping-pong, Uno. Can't forget about their theme trivia night! Bored? Come on by!
I'm not a rum fan, but their rum is fantastic! The black walnut old fashion is amazing. Ended up buying 2 bottles of the Aeva because of how good it is. Excellent atmosphere. Keep up the good work! Guns Up Giddy Up!
We enjoyed our group tour. I love the story behind the brand and seeing Eric’s passion for the Rum, the ingredients, and how it’s made. It was really special to hear about the women that were featured on the labels for each of the bottles. The drinks were amazing. The rum is very special. Thank you!
