One of the best bakeries in Durham! The pistachio almond croissant is a must! Nothing quite like one of their biscuits made from scratch as well!

Unfortunately, this is not your neighborhood bakery if you are a East Durham resident, another unfortunate thing is it's become apparent gentrification further exploited the racial disparities that brought the East Bake Shop to its existence from a 2016 crowd fund raised to progressively exemplify what good eats+ local business coupled with community engagement could look like*NEWSFLASH*fraud, fake, phony;I had become a weekly regular by both purchasing goods from the farmers market & treating my kids to an after school snack. After being furloughed the visits were no longer economically feasible. I contacted them reminded them of who I am, asked if ebt would be a form of payment accepted and was told they were not set u to accept that form of payment then challenged as to what merchants does accept it @ the farmers market. When I was a paid social worker my purchases were good, now I am temporarily in a pandemic economy there's no acceptance of what many in the neighborhood has as a new form of currency. You have shown your slip we get it you are waiting until the community is totally gentrified not to include those populations you dismiss daily.EAST DURHAM BAKE SHOP, you dont want us and East Durham does not care for your faux support of marginal populations that serve your bottom line no purposeSn: beyond the cookies it's not that good anyways

I love EDBS! My whole family frequented it before the pandemic, and we continue to order for pickup now. I feel safe picking up from them due to their safety precautions, and they still create the friendly, welcoming experience I was used to before. Bonus pandemic points: I've been able to get baking supplies and pantry staples here that are difficult to find in grocery stores! Try the pie (every kind is good) and the rosemary lemon cookies! Also, their bagels are the bomb.

I really hope these guys are able to keep up their business, they're doing some really great work for the community. That said, a lot of their products seem really overpriced, even for an independent bake shop. The "monkey bread" that I ordered was burnt and generally not very pleasant to eat. I had much better luck with the croissants and breads. As of now it's a little hit or miss, but I'm hoping given time my experience will prove as a fluke.

Fresh baked goods as always. The focaccia is a little too soft for how Ive known it to be. Few things little pricey as well but the quality is top notch. Overall feel of the place is great as well

East Durham bake shop is one of my favorite pastry spots in the triangle. Not only is the staff lovely, but the pastries and coffee will magically fix your bad days with a little bit of lamination. Would also recommend getting some bagels and putting them in your freezer so you can go to the bake shop every morning.

$28 for a 10 inch pie and closer to $35 once tip and tax are included? Are you INSANE? No. We are not insane. This. Is. Worth. Every. Gawl. Durn. Penny. I laughed out loud at how expensive these pies were when I saw them at the farmer's market. What loon would pay those prices? Then, my wife brought one home because... well, she's got impulse control problems. I cannot even begin to count the number of pies that I've have eaten over the last half century. I've eaten at perhaps a hundred different Michelin starred restaurants around the world. I seek out the James Beard award winners around the US. I'm a foodie and I've got the extra weight to prove it. No hyperbole. This is easily the best pie I have ever had in my life and I would put this against ANYBODY'S dessert on the planet. And I am a repeat customer, so I know they didn't just get lucky. This is heaven in a box. Their apple pie crust is hard to describe. Crumbly and textured like crust, but tastes more like a cinnamon roll without being overly sweet. Just perfection. I now gladly drive an hour round trip to pick up their pies. You should order one online right now. Do it. You should. You know why? Because you too have impulse control problems. You won't miss the money, but you'll remember this pie.

Amazing!!!! Not only are their pastries so so good--I especially love the aged cheddar and garlic scone--their service is also top notch. What I really love about this shop is that during this pandemic, they've begun stocking essentials like flour, potatoes, onions, milk, butter, and more that grocery stores have started to run out of. Along with a scone and a croissant, I bought three bags of flour and some of their house pesto this week, which was a blessing. I anticipate returning many more times, and when this is over, I hope to have a coffee and scone sitting inside the shop, too!

We just lover everything about this place. The owners and staff are nice. They are part of the community and have a program where you can buy a food item and donate it via a card on a bulletin board to anyone else who could use it. Their pies are their gateway, and we crowdfunded them years ago. Then they offered pastries and bagels. Oh my, they're good. My favorite are the Finnish korvapusti and scones. They also get lots of compliments on their croissants and bagels. They also support other local food purveyors and try to source local ingredients. When I think of an awesome neighborhood bakery, I think of this place.

This place is my favourite bake shop in the Triangle! I was first introduced to their pastries at the Durham Farmer's market and I was amazed by the amount of pastries they had as well as the uniqueness of the baked goods themselves. There is something there for everyone, whether you have a sweet tooth or prefer more savoury goods. My favourite has been the evening bun which I look forward to every Saturday when I go the market. There have been times I have even gone to the shop itself when they have run out of it at the market. My second favourite is their Matcha bun which I believe they only sell during the summer..can't wait for it to come back! Overall the shop is super cute and cozy, and they make great craft coffee drinks.

This place is great and would get 5 stars if they didn't often run out of the great baked stuff early in the day most times (especially on weekends). I know this is typical with many bakeries but some of us just aren't morning people! They often have a yummy vegetarian savory option (like a recent pizza handpie) unfortunately those are quick to sell out as well. Love their frenchtoast bread puddings, coconut pie and sometimes they will have a frangipane pastry that is very good (we especially loved it with pear). They also make lovely lattes like London Fog and Chamomile Lattes!

I love EDBS! From their pies to croissants to fruit galettes, everything I've tried from them have been absolutely amazing! My all time favorite is their twice baked almond croissant They have a really sweet tradition that I love! They have a board in the shop called Just Because Board. Patrons pay for a coffee or pastry in advance for someone with a note. And if people walk in and see a note that applies to them, they can get redeem the coffee or pastry. It's small things like this that makes me love the Durham community so much!

Oh my goodness I love this place and I love it even more after today. Thank you so much for introducing me to Voisilmäpulla, as a huge cardamom fan, I didn't know my life could be filled with anymore delicious cardamom goodies and here you are giving me a cardamom latte and these butter eyed buns!!!! You made my day, thank you! Also your pies and almond pistachio croissants are amazing. The Chegnog latte was amazing... your thoughtful give forward wall is amazing. I love you and I am so happy you are on my way to work. Although my bank account isn't.
