Husband had three of the tacos: asada, birria, and chorizo, and according to him all three were really good. Only the birria was served with two tortillas, but the single tortilla-tacos held up, even with a liberal dose of the two salsas provided. My son had the pollo asado taco, and he rated it 4.5 out of 5 (he's 6 and he's never given something a 5/5, so this is an excellent rating for him). I had the plain quesadilla, because there aren't a lot of vegetarian options, but the acid/heat of the green salsa helped cut through the fat nicely. The horchata was nice and thick, and piña wasn't too sweet. Overall, I would be happy to return.

This place goes on top of the list for places to eat in Durham in my opinion. Granted this would be considered a hole in the wall place, so if you are looking for a fancy restaurant this is not for you. Coming from Texas and eating Mexican food and Tex-Mex often, El Huarache definitely is authentic. I had the tacos, one of birria, pollo (chicken), and also a special order egg mixed with chorizo. These meats are well seasoned and the corn tortillas were made in house... the corn tortillas were definitely great! I am sad I didn't get to try the flour tortillas. Over all this is a place to get good authentic Mexican food.

I'm pretty sure this was the first birria taco I had ever had. I know where the heck have I been?! Gotta say very satisfying. The accompanying broth had lots of flavor, studded with some pieces of meat and a few veggies i think. The tacos were cheesy and hot and pretty damn delicious. I was a bit rushed and had to eat my tacos quickly to make it somewhere else but as they cooled off the flavors were more easily distinguishable and overall more enjoyable. The first taco was a little hot and I didn't enjoy it as much due to the temperature but that's a good thing that it was fresh and piping hot. It was just my personal timing that was the problem. Oh a nice cold horchata was the perfect accompaniment. I would love to check them out again on a future trip to Durham. Now this is quite authentic and not upscale - a utilitarian space but nice service and quality food. Good for a satisfying meal.

The Birria tacos were awesome. The regular non-birria items were average.Service: Really good service. Some little issues with language with the person taking order.

The best chilaquiles ever! The green salsa was delicious. Yes, definitely I will come back for some more..Kid-friendliness: Great environment.
Authentic! I was the only gringa in there at one point, and the place was half full. The Jamaica wasn't too sweet and the costillas en pasilla plate was excellent.

Probably the best Birria in Durham. The broth was sublime yet complex. Really....the layers of flavor are deep without being over seasoned. You really need to put them to the test. And so many fusions of different cuisines: The Ramen can compete with the best!
