Lula and Sadie’s Reviews
My recent visit was an absolute delight from start to finish. What stood out most was their thoughtful approach to every detail, especially their cocktails and amazing cuisine.
I ordered their seasonal cocktail, which was initially not what I expected. When I mentioned this to our server, the General Manager, Marcus, graciously offered to provide a new drink and received my feedback. What came back was perfection—a beautifully balanced drink that paired seamlessly with...read full review
I usually don't leave reviews, especially for businesses that I go out of my way to support in the community. However, my recent experience has left me compelled to share.
A few weeks ago, I made a reservation for my Sorority sisters and I to dine at this restaurant. We wanted to celebrate a fellow Sorority Sister's recent accomplishment in the Durham community, especially since many of us are deeply rooted in the community both personally and professionally.

Today, I attended brunch with my sorority sisters at Lula and Sadie. The experience was absolutely horrendous. Despite making a reservation, we were not seated for 45 minutes. Our food took a long time to arrive and the General Manager Marcus was rude and nasty. Supporting black businesses is very important to me. Nevertheless, I will not return to this restaurant or refer anyone to it in the future.

Lula and Sadie’s is a charming restaurant with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The space is creatively utilized with various seating sections, including a rooftop area and a bar. The food is described as amazing, with particular praise for the shrimp salad and shrimp and grits, which are considered some of the best in Durham. The restaurant supports local artists and hosts live jazz brunches, often featuring live music during Sunday brunch. On special occasions, guests may receive complimentary treats like sweet potato pie and red velvet cake. The menu includes dishes like fried chicken, fried green tomato appetizer with pimento cheese and bacon, and potato crusted catfish with buttered okra and black eye pea salad. The okra is highly recommended, and the crispy, tender catfish is well-liked. Customers mention that the catfish is excellent and the service friendly and attentive, making the overall experience enjoyable. Although some reviews point out that the prices are high and include charges like a 20% Cost of Living fee, many guests find the food and atmosphere worth returning for. The restaurant also offers exciting specials and a lively jazz brunch experience, making it a Durham gem that many look forward to visiting again.
