Had dinner with a group of friends and it was a wonderful experience. The food was delicious and the service was great! We will be back when we are next in Durham.

Always a great place and food is excellent. Was a little smoky inside with not much ventilation. But otherwise, great ambiance
$75 for nigiri omakase is a such a great deal. The quality was amazing, service was great, restaurant has a nice vibe. 10/10 all around.

Best sushi in Durham by far, but you'll be paying for it. As someone who has had sushi in Japan, this compares pretty well to the average sushi restaurant in Tokyo, which is to say, quite good. I recommend the rolls, which were all flavorful and filling.
Amazing Sushi and cocktails :)

M sushi is the finest in Asian cuisine that Durham has to offer, and it rivals other greats across the country. Chef Michael Lee has brought true excellence to the Triangle with his group of “M Restaurants”. This one in particular is the most special of his spots in terms of atmosphere, service, and food. Parking is very convenient and inexpensive at the Chapel Hill St garage or parking lot right behind the restaurant

A cannot beat lunch deal - great selection and high quality food served quickly and at a great price. The ambiance is chill - I actually prefer to do lunch here rather than dinner. Don't miss the miso soup and anything with blue fin tuna. A go to Durham classic!
Best Sushi in Durham, and it's not close.
This is my favorite restaurant. The omakase experience at the bar cannot be beat. Each piece is heaven. Worth the drive from Richmond, VA every time.
M Sushi Durham is a true culinary delight. From the moment I walked through the doors, I could tell I was in for something special. The 13-piece nigiri omakase, priced at $75, is an exceptional value considering the quality and care that go into each piece. While the selection didn’t include botan ebi, ikura, or uni, every slice of fish that was presented was remarkably fresh and thoughtfully balanced with perfectly seasoned, warm rice. The restraint and precision in the preparation show real confidence in the ingredients.
If there’s one critique, it’s the restaurant’s fondness for the utilization of fried green onions and shallots on its nigiri. A touch less of those, and a return to the clean simplicity of soy sauce or sea salt, would allow the natural flavor of the fish to shine even more and provide an even more elevated omakase experience.
Our chef, though not Japanese, displayed impressive skill and composure throughout the meal. Each bite was carefully assembled, and the pacing of the omakase was perfectly measured. Compared to M Sushi Cary, the Durham location is clearly superior; the fish is fresher, the rice better executed, and the overall attention to detail far more consistent.
The man that served us was busy, yet warm and knowledgeable, striking that rare balance between professionalism and genuine hospitality. He even asked me about why I loved this restaurant so much. It shows how much they value feedback.
One note for future diners: if you are fortunate enough to sit at the sushi bar, please do not order rolls or edamame. The sushi bar is not the place for casual snacking or hiding rice under layers of sauce and avocado. It’s a space meant for appreciation, for watching craftsmanship unfold piece by piece. Ordering rolls there is the culinary equivalent of asking for ketchup at a fine steakhouse. Don’t do it. Honor the experience, honor the sushi chef; let the chef’s vast experience and knowledge of the ingredients and culinary art guide you.
M Sushi Durham is easily among the best sushi restaurants in the Triangle, and I will absolutely return, especially for that exceptional nigiri omakase.

Good, fresh sushi. Everything was fresh and a couple of the special rolls, the Tuna Special and Twisted Mango were both great. I was surprised they did not have more creative rolls but did enjoy everything we ordered.

Cobwebs and lots of dust on the ceiling, super unexpected for such an establishment. Hope they clean up soon.

I'm going to do this business a solid even though I didn't get to try any of their food, check out the inside or see if the staff was friendly and efficient because the restaurant had closed by the time I actually figured out where they were located. You can't see the restaurant from the street. They are located directly across the street from the main entrance of the Marriott. Park in that tiny parking lot and their door is on the far left of the building.
IF you use a wheelchair, scooter, walker or any assistive device for that matter, in order to access the door you are going to have to traverse broken cement, then gravel and THEN cobblestones. I have zero idea if they are accessible inside the restaurant. You should decide how much you really want to try this restaurant before you go, friends.
The best sushi that I have ever had. The experience was amazing and I cannot wait to go back!
This is my absolutely favorite sushi place! I’ve been here so many times already, never disappointed. Sushi, rolls, small plates - all is super delicious. Book a table in advance especially for the weekend visit. And it takes a while to find parking.
