Thursday has a loaded fry special. I decided to give this spot a try because bbq was on the mind. I had loaded fries with the BBQ/Smoked Turkey. This was some amazing, juicy, tender and flavorful turkey. I promise to have some again. The fries were also very good, crispy and well seasoned. But the turkey was the star of the show. Portions sizes are huge and employees friendly when available. The location isn't a problem for me, but I could see some not wanting to travel to old east durham for food. The area is lack of most amenities that would draw traffic. (Gas, Shopping, Sights) Aside from I'd say 3 exceptional hidden gems for food the area lacks drawing power. Besides all of that Mike D's BBQ is top tier and hopefully gets the attention necessary to shine as the awards show they should and will.

Hands Down...Thee Best Bbq in town!!! Thee Best Food in city of Durham!! They catered to us and it was the most professional service I've ever experienced. They opened up the back room and hosted approximately 35 people!! Ambiance was relaxed and comfortable!!! I can't wait to return.

Great service and atmosphere! The brisket was very tender, but fairly bland in my opinion. I think it could use a little more smokiness - still pretty decent! The potato salad was phenomenal! Portions are pretty hefty so plan on leaving stuffed. Overall a good little bbq joint.

Amazing staff. Great food. I eat here at least once a week. It’s close to my office. We use Mike D for catering our work events and everyone loves it. Lots of food and flavor for your buck. Highly recommended

Amazing food with cute outside courtyard! Loved it and can't wait to get back! After eating our delicious meal ( brisket sandwich and brisket Mac n cheese bowl), I decided to get a pound of pulled pork to put in my college kid's Easter basket! Wanted him to enjoy some great food back at school!

Was not pleased with my $17 rib sandwich combo. Ribs tasted like they were from the day before and reheated. The potato salad was very different no taste no relish. One small roll. I drove from Holly Springs, NC from how they advertised them on the radio. I'm Oklahoma/Texas were we have excellent barbecue. This is my experience.

Hands down the best barbecue I have had in a long time. Are the prices a little high? Yeah but it is worth every f***ing cent. The staff helped guide me to what I wanted and the atmosphere is a vibe. Cannot recommend enough.

Great place to eat . My only issue is , No call in orders or online . i just don't have time at lunch to wait in line . I think you are losing 50% of your biz because ppl can't order and pick up ,. Please change this

I would have taken a picture, but I was busy shoveling the food in my mouth. So here I am at Mike's for the second day IN A ROW because that's how good it is. When you walk in, everyone has an authentic "thanks for stopping by" smile. You're greeted with kindness and respect. This was after we pulled up and saw Mike, who waved at us as though we had known each other for years. It's that welcoming spirit that consistently meets you at the door. Then you realize that you're in this magical space where tender smoked meats and fresh homemade sides exist. Day 1: The macaroni and cheese brisket bowl. Laid on top of grandma's mac and cheese (you know the kind she only fixed on Sundays when company was coming over after church) was what had to be a half pound of juicy brisket. My friend looked at it and said "did you order a bowl of meat???". Yeah, it's that much. The brisket was tender and seasoned so that you can appreciate the meat. There wasn't some over the top, distinctive seasoning that only works with this meal or you have to like a specific region/type of food. It was "you can eat this with everything" flavor! Brisket and eggs anyone? Day 2: The chicken salad sandwich with coleslaw and macaroni and cheese (yeah I had it again). How is chicken salad THIS good?!? You can taste the smoked on the bone flavor paired with house made dressing, piled high on a sweet roll. Oh and that mac is baked. Tender noodles with pieces of cheese in between. Hot and gooey. Both days: Impeccable customer service. The staff makes you feel like this is the place you're supposed to be in. Portions that no one can finish in a single sitting. You can easily have two meals from one order. Protein that is slow cooked...it's clear that time was dedicated to each menu item. Commitment to accuracy. When a question arose, they made sure I got exactly what I wanted. No guessing. Cleanliness. That place is spotless. Ample sauces, napkins, cutlery that are easily accessible. You don't have a single need or want (other than more space in your tummy). Oh and the sauce. Spiced and smoky with a little kiss of sweet. It's an awesome neighborhood spot where you can get a great meal and be seen as though you matter. The bonus is the partnership with Proximity Brewery, where you can order a flight of beer or a glass of local wine while you lick sauce out of the corners of your mouth. Enjoy!

I honestly will have to revisit to give a better review. I purchased the last of the food around closing time, so I wasn't impressed, especially due to the price. My wife convinced me to try again, so I will.The customer service was awesome ?? and the employees were great. I'll try again at a better time of day.
