Delicious food, casual area. Despite near to closing-time, the staff here welcomed and served us (without rushing).

This was one of the first places we tried after moving to Durham and we were back again within the same week! THIS FOOD IS GOOOOD! If you like seafood and no fuss, good eats then this is the place for you!! The Hush-Honeys have a special place in my heart and the mahi mahi was the best I've had in a long time. I can't wait for friends and family to visit so we can't take them to Saltbox!!!

Had lunch today!! Oyster sandwich aka "little pillows of deliciousness". You have perfected seafood... I guess it was fried.... but sure didn't taste or appear as such!! Loved, loved, loved the New Bern Flag! Can't wait to return! MWAH.... Kris.

I'm a Durham resident & after reading all the glowing reviews for this establishment (Yelp & others), I finally decided to eat at the Chapel Hill Blvd location last Saturday afternoon. Hate to bash businesses that are having such a tough time in the Covid-era, but the food here was both over-priced and just plain awful. Although the catfish I ordered was "fried", since it wasn't breaded the consistency was just MUSH.......couldn't tell if it had been broiled, baked, or fried. Actually........it was pretty horrible.

The food is decent but charging that much for some flounder out of a shack is a bit weird.

Thank you to all the staff at the Salt Box in Durham. Ms. Carmen rolled out the red carpet for my dining experience. Fresh food, great experience. Please visit you will not be disappointed.

Let me start by saying the person serving at the Saltbox on Magnum Street in Durham needed some help. She did it ALL by herself - took orders, handled the payment and served up your order. Needless to say there was a line and a 20 minute wait. Now to the food - it’s called the “saltbox” for a reason! Salty, Small portions, expensive price and greasy potatoes. Drove 40 minutes and I can truly say - not worth it.

What a shame. I loved the style of this place; counter-serve, focused menu, picnic tables, etc. We came on a recommendation to get the shrimp, but when we got there they were out. I respect that they are using fresh food, but for a place with only a handful of options to be out of their top seller by mid-day was disappointing. With that said, I love scallops so I went with the hush honeys and scallop sandwich. My friend got the oyster sandwich, and both of us asked for no slaw.We were warned about the 30 minute wait, so no issues there. When the food came is where the disappointment started. Despite asking for no slaw, we both got slaw, and the whole plate looked like a total mess. It looks like they literally grabbed a handful of everything and chucked it into the styrofoam container. The scallops tasted fresh but were otherwise bland and strangely chewy. Oysters were also lackluster. Finally we asked to use the restroom and were told "It's back there but it's locked and I'm too busy to get you the key". I strive to support local businesses but I also expect to be treated with a modicum of respect as a patron, especially when this place is NOT cheap. The hush honeys were actually pretty good, so if I came here against my will at some point in the future, I'd probably just get those.

OMG, just came back from New Orleans, Tampa/St. Pete/Treasure Island, Outer Banks NC & had great seafood (oysters, shrimp, scallops, fish, chowders of any kinds are my favorites) and they were great, but this Durham Joint by far bested them all. 5 stars

Top notch, worth the wait, nice people, amazing food. So good I got the cookbook. Biggest regret is not trying this place sooner.
