Being greeted, and I mean authentically greeted as opposed to a rehearsed corporate cliche, makes such a difference to the whole experience of walking into a shop. Three different people behind the counter, as they passed from one task to another glanced up, made eye contact and offered their own personal welcome. I was just stopping in to order a cup of black coffee to go, but the nice, cheerful vibe that everyone contributed to creating made me feel right at home - even though...
