We have dined there on several occasions. This is the first time that we were disappointed with the food. Everything we had was over sauced but still lacked favor. Really disappointing experience because were entertaining friends from out of town.

Overall we really enjoyed our first visit to Taberna with some good friends. The atmosphere was inviting and nice but definitely far from formal. The food was quite good. Everything we tried was a hit and we did our best to try a lot. The house made dark chocolate and orange infused ice cream was worth the trip all on its own. Our service was not bad by any means but felt a little distant at times. We will be back!

The food was phenomenal and consistent with what I had heard from my foodie friends!! We had the croquetas de jamon, bacon-wrapped dates, empanadas de carne, and patatas bravas + aioli. All were excellent! The red sangria was refreshing, very apple-forward. Will be back!

This was the BEST food I've had in quite some time. The wait staff was extremely attentive & informative. It seemed the staff made everyone feel welcomed & important. Cannot wait to return! Also, highly suggest the empanadas!!

First time trying out this restaurant with a group of friends and we really enjoyed it. A few of us tried their red sangria and it was very tasty. Service was very good.

The food was great! We will probably eat here again. Check the website though, the prices were more than what is listed on OpenTable by about 30-35% (which is quite notable). I didn't enjoy the steak with chimmichurri as much as I thought I would, it tasted more oily than chimmichurri and just felt like it needed a bit more spice... But the pork empanada was fantastic!

This was our second time visiting Taberna. Great date night restaurant. The atmosphere leans toward romantic with its low lighting, and cozy candle lit tables. On this visit we had the bacon wrapped dates, chimichurri steak, and honey Chipotle wings. The service was pretty good. I would say it would have been nice to have our water refilled without having to flag someone down. The wings were the highlight of the meal. The dates were as expected. We ordered the steak because it was amazing the first time we came. Unfortunately last night it was not. The portion was slightly smaller than before. The steak was a little over cooked and lacking chimichurri sauce as compared to the first time we had it. I would still highly recommend Taberna. Next time I’ll request my steak med-rare.

Grilled octopus here is SO delicious we ordered a second serving. Ambient candle-lit tapas atmosphere, delightful red sangria to pair with the dishes. Loved the Oyster Mushrooms and Kale, grilled cauliflower, Spanish bruschetta, Grilled Octopus *** (must have), and the sangria. Spanish Cheese plate could be skipped. Try something else from the menu instead! Not enough bread : cheese ratio (low on bread), and the cheeses felt very very similar. And it was >$ than most other tapas.
It’s a bit loud, even late at 8:30pm. But this seems to be a theme for Durham restaurants. However, otherwise it’s a really nice atmosphere to be in!
For the price, while the waiter was super nice, the service was a bit inattentive. They left the dirty plates on our table for a long time and we had to flag down different waiters to order more.
Several vegetarian options. Better if you eat sea food too. The good news is that 100% of the items from the veg menu were delish!

We came here before a rare Monday night show at DPAC. We got there a little before 6, and I am glad we didn't get there any later, because it quickly got very busy. Our server Alex was top notch, and explained that they were short staffed, but that didn't hinder our experience. We ordered SO much food, and although none of it went to waste, some dishes stood out. We didn't even take pictures, we devoured it all so fast.
Dishes we ordered were: Beet & feta salad, Ham & Arugula salad, bacon wrapped dates, Crab stuffed peppers, braised short rib with polenta, steak and chimichurri sauce, potato cake, octopus, mussels, churros, chocolate Valencia ice cream, and chocolate mousse. (PHEW)
The potato cake proved to be a little bit basic, but the aioli was delicious, and the chimichurri on the steak sort of cooked into it, instead of being more present on top. The dates, mussels, and even the salads were stars, and both drinks I got hit the spot (try the rose sangria!
We would absolutely go back here before a show, or with out-of-town friends. There is definitely something for everyone and there are still dishes I want to try!
