First time and from out of town stumbled on this ice cream shop and must say one of the best hot fudge sundaes I’ve had in long time. Got the vanilla/ cookies n cream flavor. Hot Fudge was real deal ice cream was air tight dense so good. Tasted like premium top grade cream curious to know if ice cream uses eggs in it.
Good milkshakes
So literally just left this establishment and as an African American female, I’m mortified. I would for sure encourage my people of color to please go elsewhere. I came to get a brownie sundae, I was very pleaaant from the moment I entered the door. The girl behind the counter assisting me, already had a terrible attitude, as if I was annoying her from the time I opened my mouth.
I asked if she could not put hot fudge on my order, she did anyway. I realized once I got in the car and my ice cream was already melted like a cup of soup. I live 2 mins from this place, right downtown. No way it should have melted that quickly. I go to Jenni’s/Simons all the time. An as long as I don’t order hot fudge, ice cream never melts that fast!
I called to speak with the manager, and the call was taken over by the owner. Which is even more disheartening. She basically accused me of lying about seeing her rude employee put hot fudge on my ice cream, and was very dismissive. Offered a refund, but at this point, you’re being so nasty, it’s now about the principal.
I returned to this place of business with the melted soup. An the owner tried being nice and passive at the same time lol. While the employee that helped me hid in the back. As if I was a threat? I get it, black woman in an all white establishment, although she’s being respectful is a threat right? Lol. The owner told me the ice cream melted because it was vegan ice cream and not because her employee put hot fudge on it. She then offered something for my inconvenience, which I politely declined! Because why would I accept something from someone who not only accused me of lying, but also dismissed my concerns. Please spend your money in places that value their customers. Not with an owner who says “you never have to try us again” which was over the phone by the way. Not once did I raise my voice or get nasty by the way. Because I know they like to paint us as the aggressors.
Just FYI:
Please look at the review from someone named Amanda a month ago. Literally detailed the same rude experience I had with the same employee. The girl who wears the baseball cap! An when I complained, the owner said the same thing to me. That the girl has been there for years lol. Ok does this excuse her behavior?
High quality ice cream with friendly staff and unique flavors. They only had one chocolate-based flavor, so if you love chocolate this may not be the most exciting option (although the flavor was good!). The prices are reasonable for downtown Durham.
Delicious and unique flavors!
Perfect last stop on date night. DEFINITELY a new favorite.
Incredible incredible incredible! Can’t go wrong with anything on the menu 💯😋 Great atmosphere!
Nice little ice cream shop, with nice seating and outside seating across the street.
Some of the best ice cream in the Triangle!!
Refused to give me a cone and was rude and smirking while told me no.

The ice cream gets 5 stars, but the customer service from one particular scooper, a young lady who frequently wears a baseball cap, T-shirt and jeans (works at lot of Parlous JR. And parlour downtown sometimes) is atrocious. We moved to Durham a year ago to the apartments at 810 across the parlour jr location. My fiance and I made a ritual to go every weekend until we moved recently. This young lady has been very rude, hurries us out and seems really bothered by us. We've seen her interact with other customers and she is nicer to them, though still serving some attitude. We always tip her anywhere from 1 -3 dollars even when she is rude. Today around 7pm, her rudeness and sarcasm was beyond what it ever has been which is why I am moved to waste 5 minutes of my life to express this. My fiance wanted to try two flavors, a blackberry and a cheesecake flavor. She got him the samples and he asked her which is which she said, well geeze I don't know maybe the one with the chunks might be cheesecake. Mind you this is a tiny sample so those obvious chunks weren't so obvious. She was so rude like she wanted us out and didn't even give us the right flavor. And I still tipped her. Getting ice cream was fun but has become kind of a bummer with sarcasm, rudeness and eye rolls and I'm not sure what we did to deserve that. Parlour has lost a frequent ice cream buyer.
We love the parlour!
the best in town! great for weird exotic flavors! love this place!
The Parlour is always wonderful! It's a Durham gem.
Yummy flavors! I enjoyed my strawberry watermelon (vegan) and my sister enjoyed her milk tea flavored ice cream!
