Our first visit to Finial was a very pleasant experience. The ambiance aligned beautifully with the refined atmosphere of the Grandover, and the service was truly excellent throughout the evening. We ordered the ribeye with scallops and the shrimp and grits—while the ribeye was slightly overcooked, both entrées were flavorful and well-prepared. This is a difficult review. We love the Finial, but this was an unusual situation. When we arrived, the power was out and after 30 minutes Duke power still had a 10:30 time estimate. The staff was great but we were, unfortunately, unable to get food.
The venue is beautiful. I ordered the egg-on-egg appetizer, it was deep fried and the rubber texture was awful. I also ordered the crabcake on fried green tomatoes. The crabcake had fake crab on the bottom to lay flat on the tomatoes and this was also like rubber. The staff was a wonderful group of hard workers. The food not so good.
