This is a review of our last 2 experiences at Frothy Rooster. For those reading, this restaraunt has a lot of potential to be great!
The good: Love the vibe, food ideas, and decor. Love the simple menu and value for the amount of food you get. Love the coffee options too! Love the food presentation!
The bad: The food is very mediocre. It has potential but (and Im saying this as someone who loves seasoning) it has way too much salt. In addition, it comes out room temp and tough like it comes from frozen and is microwaved. I think there are good spots like the eggs, sausge, and biscuit but a lot is disappointing. Another way it could be improved is less reliance on the dipping condiments to counteract the strong points of the food. (I.E. super sweet ketchup for overly salty hash browns). Again, love the ideas for the food but execution needs improvement.
Coffee: its bad, i dont expect cafe level but it really needs improvement. Very watered down and bitter with fines on the bottom (americano). Please train the staff on espresso drinks.
Service: Both times our servers have been very nice. However, the first time we were completely forgotten about, the second time there were mix ups about drinks - apps came out with meal - we were seated next to the host stand and were listening to a server and bus boy bicker. Overall, both times were a negative experience despite the friendly service.
Overall: I think with additional training this restaurant will be fantastic. Make it about the total customer experience not just highlights! Use less microwaves. Some things literally and figuratively leave a bad taste in the customers mouth. Thanks for reading!

Our experience was disappointing, to say the least. Upon approaching the counter, we were repeatedly asked if our order was for takeout. It felt as if we were inconveniencing the staff since they had to find someone to take our order. We placed two separate orders: one was just a plain bagel with cream cheese and orange juice, while the second included a build-your-own bagel, two coffees, and a skillet meal.
The cashier seemed annoyed, leaving both receipts on the counter without offering us the second one to sign, then rushing off. Our takeout order took over 50 minutes. After waiting for 30 minutes, we asked for an estimated time and were told that our bagels were already prepared, which was impossible because we’d been sitting right in front of the register the entire time and had not received them.
The skillet meal arrived first, and after that, we were informed that our bagel orders had been lost and were asked to specify them again. We eventually received the BYOBagel but were told they had run out of plain bagels—after we’d waited 30 minutes.
This place really needs to improve its customer service. No one attempted to resolve the issues, and overall, it was a very disappointing experience for a takeout order. We should have taken our time and money elsewhere for better treatment.

The first time I went months ago it was just ok. This visit was FANTASTIC! I came for the espresso martini and stayed for the bagel and lox. Easily my new favorite breakfast spot. Erica was my server and she was nothing short of amazing!!

The lox bagel and the iced caramel latte were awesome. The fruit was very fresh as well. I’m not sure of the name of the girl who helped me but she was so nice—black hair with red roots? My only complaint is that the website says they open at 8, the answering machine says 7, and Google says 9. I was pretty late to a meeting because I placed my order for 8:41am pickup time. I would’ve happily placed it for later, but I didn’t end up leaving with my order until 9:15 and had I not pre-paid, I probably would have left.

I had an iced coffee from them before, this time I decided to order a hot coffee instead. I am trying to understand what happened here. It tastes horrible and very water down. I removed the lid and saw this oily looking soup. What kind of latte is this?
The name of the restaurant is what drew us in partially! ? Went here with my partner for a nice morning outing before we headed to a bookstore down the way.
The waitress here and all the staff were incredibly kind and patient with us. They were willing to answer any questions we had, as well as make changes to the food if there was an ingredient we couldn't have or didn't like.
Both my partner and I had the chicken sandwich, which was AMAZING! ??
I also had a side of loaded hash browns, which were some of the most tasty hashbrowns I've had in a while. My partner got a side of fruit, which they enjoyed as well.
The drinks here offer something for everyone. I'm not personally a big coffee drinker, so I got a hot chocolate, which again was delicious! My partner had a London fog, which they commented was incredibly good. ?
The atmosphere felt very welcoming and home-y. I don't often eat in at restaurants, but I felt very comfortable here, and I'd definitely return! ?
Parking: There's a nice parking deck behind the restaurant where you can see the outdoor seating and the back door into the restaurant. Alternatively, there's quite a few parking spaces along the street at the front of the restaurant.

So I noticed a lot of other viewers giving this place some negative reviews but it's close to me and it seemed pretty nice so I thought I would give it a try. I came in at 12 and there weren't a lot of people in there maybe 2 but it's not prime breakfast time at 12 and the hostess couldn't see me due to a column being in the way. Once she noticed me maybe a couple mins. She was very friendly and sat me promptly. Server came out promplty and was very nice. Ordered a coffee recieved it in a timely manner few mins or so. Ordered food right after it to was delivered in a very reasonable amount of time. Food was good well prepared atmosphere was nice. All in all I would say they did a very good job. I would say give them a shot. I would say it is a very modern place so don't expect a cafe atmosphere. I may go back. I wish I would have taken pictures but forgot. Hope this helps

Food is okay - nothing extraordinary for the prices, but the service is pleasant and efficient. The atmosphere is pleasant, feels like a contemporary downtown diner I have had the avocado toast several times and the breakfast skillet once. They also have coffee and breakfast drinks such as mimosas and bloody marys.

We had great brunch yesterday. The gravy and biscuits were very good but would have preferred more gravy. Eggs and potatoes were good. Side of country ham and side of sausage were both excellent. The yeast donuts were actually donut holes and they were also quite good. My son had the caramel rooster shake which he said was to die for. He also had the “pancakes”. The “pancakes” were ok but reallly should be called scones. They are round and thick and actually looked like biscuits. The saving grace was that the foamy butter syrup is absolutely fantastic and would be good on anything!!! We will definitely be back.

Delicious cappuccino! We will come back and try some food & coffee another day. The 2 ladies were super friendly, & they gave us water for our dog. They even drizzled a dog face on our cappuccino! Highly recommend.

This is the second time I’ve been in for brunch on the weekend and have had to wait for almost 30 minutes for a mimosa and Bloody Mary. The first time was on a Saturday. They did not seem overly busy and we didn’t have to wait on a table. It was close to noon and we received our appetizer before we received our drinks that we ordered before we ordered our appetizer. Today the same friend and I went for brunch. We arrived a few minutes after 10. We ordered our brunch drinks and did not receive them until 10:40. When we questioned what was taking so long, we were told that they couldn’t serve until after 10:30 and the bartender had just arrived. The brunch bill clearly states 10am on Sunday however if this establishments rules are different we should have been notified when we ordered that we would not get our drinks until after 10:30. No problem ! I have not had an issue anywhere else in Hickory ordering a mimosa at 10am on Sunday for brunch. Even though the food is pretty good, I’ve been here a total of 4 times for brunch (weekdays seem to be more organized) and can say I will probably not come again.
