Best Hickory NC BBQ I've found. This place is small but great! They have the smoker out front so you see and smell it, it's awesome! The BBQ and Chicken are both delicious. The things that bumped it to a 4 for me is the service and hush puppies. The service is not BAD, but it's not GREAT... it's a happy medium. Granite they are always busy, but whether you are at a table or at the bar, it's about the same. They can be slow when it comes to service, but in no means is it bad. The hush puppies aren't my favorite side, but I enjoy some good hush puppies. They are a 6/10 here, again not terrible but not the best I've had. Overall this place is amazing! I am a frequent and will continue to be.

First time visiting. Pleasant interior and friendly staff Ordered 3 meats and 2 sides. BBQ Chicken and pulled pork and beef brisket. Cowboy beans, sweet potato casserole and hush puppies. Best was the brisket for tenderness and flavor. Pork was tasty, but fatty. Chicken was moist and flavorful. Hush puppies were over fried. Sweet potato casserole was way too sweet and Cowboy beans had no flavor. Good amount of food for the money. I would return for the beef brisket.

We stopped for lunch after reading good reviews. We both had the salad (which was huge!). I had pulled pork on mine, my husband had turkey. Both were delicious! Highly recommend!

NomNomNom!!! What a great experience we had! Our server, Taylor, was so professional and attentive. She offered great suggestions! The $1.50 "whole" chicken wings were sooooooo good! We ordered the spicy and man was it a great compliment to the smoked wings. Not for the meek who can't handle this kind of flavorful spicy. The barbecue sandwich was tender and juicy and perfection on the "cornbread" bun. Crinkle fries and Mac and cheese were spot on. Super cute and comfortable inside. We have found our new fav barbecue joint in Hickory. We will be back and will ask for Taylor!

Came in at 2:00pm on a Saturday. My parents used to frequent this place when it was the Shuckin Shack so when we walked in we were excited to see what they had changed. To our surprise nothing was changed except checkered table cloths on the tables. The sign at the front said "seat yourselves" and we started to look for tables to sit at. Most of the tables in the restaurant had previous diners food and trays still on them so we could not seat ourselves. We decided to check outside and found a table. The table looked dirty so my mom broke out her wet wipes and started to wipe the table down. The waitress came out and greeted us and said "oh are you gonna wipe the table down?" And my mom said "ya" and then she said "oh okay, can you hold these" and handed me the menus. She didn't offer to wipe them down herself? Once we ordered we were hopeful to get some good food especially at the price point, (15$ for brisket and 2 sides). The brisket was dry, the Mac and cheese was stouffers microwave Mac, but the grits were pretty good. My mom ordered the pulled pork, cornbread, and coleslaw. The cornbread was dry and stale, the barbecue was ok, and the coleslaw was good. Safe to say that right now they are understaffed or just not caring about their restaurant. The bathrooms still have any gender signs on the right of them but a male sign on one and female sign on the other, so you can tell they have not renovated anything. All they did was add tablecloths to tables and a bbq smoker outside the restaurant. I would not recommend you dine here currently.

We just happened to see the place and said let's try . Wow we were glad we did. It isn't the cheapest place around but it is good. The quality of the BBQ made it worth it . Finally on that side of town is a great BBQ restaurant. I could find a few flaws if I wanted to nitpick but I recommend this place as a must. It reminds me of double barrel BBQ in Daytona, only better. The smell of the smoke makes your mouth water as soon as you exit your car.

We were looking to grab something to eat on our way between Asheville and our home near Winston-Salem and did a quick Yelp search. We decided to stop in based on the reviews and the proximity to I-40 through Hickory. We arrived shortly after 11am on Monday morning. The location was easy to find and there was ample parking. As we drove through the parking lot we could see the huge smoker which was cooking up something delicious. We began to walk closer and could smell it as well, yum. We were greeted just as soon as we walked in the door and decided to have a seat at the counter area. The two women working were friendly and welcoming and brought us menus and took our drink orders. One of the ladies was training the other so they both interacted with us. They also have a specials board which looked great, we did note they do not have specials on Mondays and are closed on Tuesday's. My wife really loves brisket so she ordered a one meat plate with two sides. She asked for suggestions and was told the sweet potato casserole was delicious. My wife is new to the sweet potato world but is really enjoying them. She also ordered a side salad with ranch. All plates come with your choice of bread and my wife chose hushpuppies. Given the opportunity, she will always chose brisket and hushpuppies. I chose the pulled pork sandwich along with mac n cheese. This is also my go to barbecue order. We noticed their health score and the overall cleanliness of the entire place, restrooms included. Our food arrived in a timely manner and looked incredible. We immediately dug in and we were really impressed. My wife assured me she enjoyed each and every bite. It's now been almost a week since we stopped in and she is already talking about taking the trip back to Hickory to enjoy again. The salad was a step above a typical side salad, the brisket was moist and flavorful, the hushpuppies were prepared perfectly and the sweet potato casserole was delicious. She only wished she had room for the banana pudding but she was just too full. My pulled pork sandwich and mac n cheese was equally enjoyable as well. I enjoy smoking meats at home and appreciate barbecue done well. About the time we were finishing our meals we began talking to Brian Hugh who is the owner. As a fellow veteran we recounted some of our fondest memories and I enjoyed our conversation. Absolutely a must when in the area. Open Wednesday-Monday each week, Hugh's Q is delicious. We can't wait to come back and also bring our family from out of state to visit as well. We wish continued success to Brian and the crew.

Poor Man

Food was amazing. Brisket and rib was off the bone goodness. But boy oh boy it was a bit expensive; 4 ribs and 4 slice of brisket for $30 = damn! Its more expensive than drugs. Drug dealers should get into
