Just a quick update on my previous review. Still best BBQ in town and I have been back to Peddilin Pig a couple times when Willie Brooks runs out early in the evening which appears to happen a lot. So here’s some advise if you plan on going. They discontinued sausage which is a shame because it was fabulous. Call ahead if after 6:30pm to see if running low on food. Don’t order Ribs before afternoon. If you order ribs at lunch time they are good, but not really great. They have not been coking long enough and are not fall off the bone. In fact that are a little tough. Still a must visit location.
We visited for a late lunch on Saturday. They were crowded but we were quickly seated. Our servicer was Hagan- she was awesome. She knew the menu, local favorite and specials. I had the Mountaineer. Great Sandwich! Ask for Hagan
At first my wife did not want to go to this restaurant due to the fact that it was a BBQ establishment with two other owners (different restaurant names) in the past and each time the food was average to terrible HOWEVER a new owner took over about two years ago and changed the name to Willie Brooks. She agreed to try it since the reviews were very positive. When we arrived, the first thing we noticed was the staff was very friendly and the restaurant was very clean. The tables, floors, front door glass and windows...all clean! Our server (Rachel S.) came to our table with a nice smile and offered us drinks, this place has a full bar, and she explained the menu and made some suggestions (as we requested). We are not big BBQ fan's yet every now and then it is nice to have BBQ...and this is the place to get it. I ordered the Brisket Platter and it was excellent. The dinner came with two sides so I ordered the Mac and Cheese and the Brunswick Stew ($1.50 up charge)...well worth it! The Brisket was excellent and you can tell that this place uses very good quality meet. The BBQ sauce is also outstanding! There was more food then you need. On a side note, the Mac and Cheese was luke warm however Rachel did replace it rapidly...and it was excellent. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Platter and also enjoyed it very, very much and commented several times that she was pleased that we tried out Willie Brooks. She ordered the Mashed Potatoes (also luke warm...but did not return and enjoyed them) . As we were ordering she saw someone else get the salad so she ordered the side salad (+$1.50) as her second side and it was extremely impressive. The side salad alone is worth coming here for if you like salad! Her dinner was nice and hot (other than the potatoes) and of a great quality. We did not have room for desserts yet the desserts look beautiful (they are so high and large)...the restaurant may sell more dessert if they have a "shorter" version of the various tall cakes offered! The Banana Pudding we heard was remarkable from other reviews...and they looked great in the showcase yet we just did not have the room. The only think I would like to suggest is that Willies also include a small basket of Hush Puppies or similar with the meal as it would be a nice touch and so many other places offer this as a complimentary side. I also want to mention that before we left, my wife went to use the ladies room and also mentioned to me it was very clean which is also a sign of a clean establishment!. Again, the food is fantastic...along with the service and we will defiantly come back next time we are in Blowing Rock as we visit the area several times a year..
Disappointed. Stopped in for lunch. Service was great but while I really enjoyed my brisket sandwich, which was delicious , I felt it could have had more meat for the price and didn’t enjoy their cole slaw. Other diner had ribs. The portion was large but they were a bit fatty and they were difficult to cut apart thru the connecting bone. It was fine but not what we were hoping as it was our only BBQ stop while visiting Boone.
We've always been curious about this restaurant, so we stopped in for dinner. The bakery case holding 4-layer cakes made us anticipate a delicious meal. One of us ordered the pulled pork dinner with french fries and slaw. The other a pulled pork and brisket sandwich with fries. The brisket consisted of dried bits of beef; bits not slices and they were burned. The pulled pork was a plate of mushy pork, not helped by the sauce. The slaw was past its prime. If it wasn't for the waitress and the french fries, it would have been a total waste of money. A pulled pork plate is $19.99 and a sandwich $13.99. Total bill wasted less the edible fries? $20+. Don't go. There are so many better bbq places nearby! What a tremendous disappointment!
The food was served hot and was delicious. Waitress was very attentive and stayed on top of keeping our drinks refilled.
Family was hungry for some good BBQ. We found it. All of us were pleased with our food. Some of ordered individual meals. Part of us ordered The Willie Special. They loved it. My son-in-law is an accomplished bbq’er. He was pleased. The desserts? You’ll just have to order some. A special thank you for some excellent service by Ms. Summer. You rock.
Take it from someone who's spent more time here than frankly I'd care to admit over the past year, its a gem. Run by a team of great people, top to bottom fantastic food, and a great place to grab a laid back drink or two away from the college crowds. I'll be moving out of town shortly but to everyone there, thank you for making me feel like family. I'm going to miss you all.
This was my second time at this restaurant. I couldn't wait to get back. The food is so good. The macaroni and cheese is excellent!!! This second time in going, it was a little more expensive with a smaller portion. I still walked out full. The first time we went, we took a slice of cake to go. That I did not care for. I thought it was to dry. For 10.00 a slice- I expect perfection. I still say it is worth trying.

Everything we had was amazing. Brisket was absolutely perfect. Shaved prime rib sandwich was the best I’ve ever had. Would definitely eat here again.
We went to Willie’s after a day of hiking. We ordered pulled pork, ribs and brisket. There was more than enough for the three of us. Everything was delicious, including the sides. We’ll definitely go back again. And…OMG, the banana pudding!
A friendly, clean, family style restaurant - with good food too! I ordered the bbq rib platter with cole slaw and fries. The ribs were moist and falling off the bone tender. Not heavily spiced or loaded up with salt. Very flavorful. The french fries were done perfectly for my taste: crispy, hot, and plentiful. The cole slaw was a refreshing end to the heavy meal. Service was also refreshing. My server showed up at all the right times: the drink order, take the meal order, serving both, checking in at the beginning and towards the end of the meal, dessert inquiey, and, of course, the check. All in all, service couldn't have been better. Dessert was a major attraction on display as one enters the restaurant. They also have a full bar with several specialty drinks featured. All age groups were represented at the time I was there. From singles through couples and families to older folks like me. All seemed pleased and happy. Except me - I ate too much to enjoy a dessert! Suffice it too say I'll be back next time I'm passing through Boone!
We have eaten here several times in the past for lunch. Today the restaurant was very quiet and we were the only customers. Finally another couple showed up for their desserts. Both of us ordered the pulled pork sandwich which turned out to be fatty and not much meat. The fries were fine. No Cole slaw. We noticed that they raised their prices which don’t mind if the food was good. I hope this is a temporary problem as like all the restaurants we can get as we eat out 7 days a week.
Late in the afternoon on a Monday visited Willie Brooks to order some takeout. My order consisted of a full slab of ribs, a pound of smoked “flavorful” brisket and a pint of coleslaw. An hour later preparing for dinner we found the ribs to be somewhat chewy, but with a great flavor. The brisket was horrible, very dry and tough. It will be thrown away. Zero stars for the brisket. The coleslaw was vinegary, but that is how I like it. Additionally, the containers with bbq sauce and coleslaw were only 3/4 full. Be sure you ask for extra sauce! The restaurant was empty when I arrived, but it still took about 20 minutes to complete my order. I suggest you call in your order if you don’t want to wait that long.
