I want to clarify upfront that this review is about the service, not the quality of the ice cream. We visited during the soft opening on Thursday, 6/5/2025 at New Hill, NC, and were impressed with the ice cream.
However, I’m giving this place a no recommend due to a deeply uncomfortable interaction with an employee. A young skinny blonde man with a sort of long nose, who was an employee handing out samples of in-house made waffle chips, completely ignored me (Korean) and my Chinese girlfriend. Despite us trying to make eye contact, he offered free chips to everyone around us but not to us. There were no other Asians around us. This was very deliberate in trying to skip us. It was hard not to feel invisible and uncomfortable, and it raised concerns about whether this establishment values inclusivity.
Thankfully, other staff members were kind and attentive, but after that experience, I’m hesitant to return if this is considered acceptable by the establishment. I would be willing to change my recommendation to recommended if I knew this is a safe place to be and would be more than willing to share that with other friends.

Vegetarian options: They always have vegan selections and are very allergy friendly as well
I thoroughly enjoyed it! The flavors were well-balanced and not overly sweet, offering a delightful variety. Highly recommend!

Ice cream quality is great. Prices are also very reasonable. For a family of 5 our total came to $30 with tax and tip. We sat inside, and moved ourselves outside when we were close to finished to make room for more customers.
Mama birds has a good variety of flavors and they are able to scoop you any pint of ice cream you want they have good service tables to eat at inside and games you can play if you want to stay and hang.They also have cakes you can choose from and other desserts you can have, I used to not want to try chocolate bannanas but mama birds have made me want to have one. So over all it was a good experience duu! ¯\?/¯

Mama birds reached out right away after this comment. They are such a great store. Thank you for customer service. We’ve been regulars at Mama Bird’s, so for Valentine’s Day, I decided to purchase the Pint of the Month Club. Unfortunately, it’s been a letdown. Aside from the special pint container and being able to choose the flavor for your birthday month, it hasn’t felt worth the $127 price. It seems like we’re just getting the leftover ice cream that hasn’t sold, which might be great for clearing inventory or trying out new flavors, but not ideal when you’re paying for a premium club.
For the past two months, we’ve received the same flavor—Latte—back-to-back, and neither of us even likes it. Now we have two pints we won’t eat and will likely end up gifting. When I first saw the offer, I thought it was a fantastic gift idea, and my husband was really excited—until we realized he dislikes all the flavors we’ve received so far.
I haven’t crunched the numbers, but I assumed we’d be able to choose our own flavors. Instead, it feels like we’re just getting whatever’s left, which has been disappointing.

We have many artisanal ice cream shops in this region. There's a lot of competition. This is my favorite, so far. It's well worth the longer drive for me. The quality and execution are outstanding. Don't be misled by the modest surroundings. If you love good ice cream, you must try this place.
