We had been looking forward to trying for months. The food was a disappointment with very small portions that weren't good, not to mention its very expensive. We actually went home and cooked. It's a do not return for us.

Went here for our anniversary dinner. Atmosphere is great and the food isn’t bad. But as soon as our food came we never saw our waiter again. Completely forgot about us and after 45 min waiting we checked out at the bar. After we brought up the disappointing experience to the manager she promised to send us a gift card but I guess they forgot about us a second time because it never came.

We had a lovely experience at Smoke & Tinder! The atmosphere and decor were top knotch! Started off with a fantastic smoked bourbon 🥃 old fashioned! Food was delicious and staff were very friendly. We ended the evening with a nice tour of the new ski lodge! Highly recommended!

I appreciate the time taken to reply, though the tone was surprising—especially for a restaurant that presents itself as so established. I’d like to clarify a few details to keep things accurate and fair.
We drove about 50 minutes from West Asheville and called to let the team know we were running a bit behind. The hostess sounded relieved, noted they were busy, and encouraged us to push our reservation slightly later. The few extra minutes referenced were simply from finding the restaurant in the dark—not from arriving excessively late.
When we arrived, the dining room was nearly empty, and no large party or expected delay was mentioned. We were first seated behind the hostess stand, and I unknowingly asked to move to a second table in front of the kitchen—only then was I kindly advised there would be noise and foot traffic.
The staff then suggested a third, quieter table, which we appreciated. The filet I ordered replaced the snapper special that was unavailable; when it arrived, it was overcooked. I mentioned this politely after a few bites, and while a drink was offered, it wasn’t removed from the bill until we noted it.
What we didn’t expect was the tone of the public reply—defensive, condescending, and surprisingly unprofessional for a hospitality setting. A simple acknowledgment would have said far more than attempting to rewrite a guest’s experience—perhaps too much to ask of a place still finding its footing.
Our wedding reception at Hatley Pointe and Smoke & Timber was absolutely perfect — flawless from start to finish. Courtney was phenomenal. She anticipated every detail, worked seamlessly with our vendors, and made the day feel effortless and magical.
Vic and the entire culinary team created a menu that was exactly what we envisioned — thoughtful, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. So many of our guests said it was some of the best food they’ve ever had at a wedding.
The entire staff — bartenders, servers, and valet — were kind, professional, and went above and beyond to take care of everyone. People kept coming up to us throughout the night saying how beautiful everything was, that they can’t wait to come back, and that they finally understood why we fell in love with the mountains and this incredible venue. Many even said it was the best wedding they’ve ever been to.
It was truly a magical evening, and we’re so grateful to Deb, Courtney, and the entire Hatley Pointe team for creating an experience we’ll never forget.

I rarely leave reviews, but our experience at Smoke & Timber was disappointing from start to finish. We had reservations, yet still waited far too long to be acknowledged or seated, even though the restaurant wasn't busy. Once seated, our server repeatedly mentioned being new, which unfortunately became evident as the night went on. I ordered the snapper special, only to be told 25 minutes later that they were out. I substituted with the 8oz filet ($68), which came out overcooked and textured more like meatloaf than a filet. The accompanying carrots were nearly raw, and the bread was underbaked. The $22 Caesar salad was bland, and the $18 cocktail (a simple tequila soda) was mediocre at best. My husband's Diet Coke was never refilled. Ironically, the $14 french fry trio appetizer was the best thing we had all night. In total, our meal for two came to $225 before tip--a steep price for such poor quality and service. I spoke with the manager, explaining that we had been genuinely excited to try the restaurant after following their renovation journey, even driving 50 minutes one way just to dine there. She assured me she would "make it right," but nothing was done. Between the untrained staff, long wait, uncooked food, and overpriced drinks, this was a major letdown. Even the parking situation was frustrating. I truly wanted to love Smoke & Timber--but this visit was far from the elevated experience promised. I really feel like Deb and Seth have over promised and under delivered. What a shame.
OMG loved this place was literally like 6 minutes from where we stayed would highly recommend it a little pricey but worth it it sexy filet was off the chain Kelly was out server she was awesome

Wow. We made the 50 min drive to utilize our Resy credit and it was worth it! Everything from the cocktails to the food to the service were phenomenal. Brit was exceptional in the bar area and Hannah, our server, was extremely friendly and helpful with the menu. We had the seasonal duck breast which was cooked perfectly, the Tuscan chicken, and the peach and burrata salad.

This was our first visit to Smoke and Timber. We made reservations for a special occasion. It is located in the Wolf Laurel community in Mars Hill. It has a rustic and comfortable feel. It is in the old ski lodge. It has been remodeled and is lovely. We were greeted promptly with warm and welcoming greetings. Naomi was our waitress and Charlie was the young man who kept the table cleared and tidy. Courtney came by to check to see if we were having a good time. The Brussels Sprout app was great and nice portion to share as well as the Caprese Salad. Our meals were cooked perfectly. The fire pit in the middle of the dining area gave it all a cozy atmosphere. The bartender made our drinks perfectly. We will go back. Nice to have a nice dining option in the area. There is a valet option or parking available a short walk up
