Sanitary Fish Market and Restaurant

It is understandable that people go here for the vibe (although I personally don't understand why). The food is very subpar, bland, and lacking a fresh taste.

uh... some advice to this place, cook in butter or olive oil, cut the seed oils, if rfk jr came in he'd need a crucifix, dont make patrons take up the bill as if they worked for you (they dont, you work for them), hire a chef, you can fix this.

I know several people have had a few bad experiences over the past year or so. Including our family. We had family just visit last week 5-8th and we had a large variety of items. I must say every was cooked perfectly. Made for a great experience for family that was visiting. Thanks to all. Update May 2023. Using frozen shrimp or at least pre-cooked. Smaller portions. The hush puppies are the only thing to go for. Waitress was wonderful.

Outdoor seating is best and they allow furry friends. Their clam strips and scallops with pork belly are among my favorites. They don’t charge an arm and a leg for wine either. I think they have a new chef who does a great job. Their cocktail sauce is fresh and to die for!

My wife and I went there while staying in nearly Atlantic Beach for a wedding. The food and service were unbeatable.

I love the sanitary and my family has been coming here for generations! However the food has really gone down hill. There is no flavor and the seafood options do not taste fresh. The hush puppies were so flavorless and bland. It’s such a shame because the sanitary is such a historic for the town.

30 years ago I would eat here as many times a month I could get to Morehead, no better food anywhere. It's been 30years I've waited. My friends thought it was good but they don't know it then. I'm sorry to say but I was very disappointed. Even more disappointing was watching my $30 plate hit the trash. I did notice from looking at it and the one bite I took that there were excessive spices present, maybe Mediterranean or Mid Eastern. Each owner has the right to serve their food the way they want to, but I went into a restaurant that looked the same 30 years ago and I guess I expected to get good local food as there was no indication it was different. The locals said I should have ask them first.

Came from Maryland to visit family for my birthday and just wanted some decent seafood. We found this cute lil restaurant on the water where the prices seemed reasonable & affordable . Coming from Maryland my crab cake expectations may be a little high.The crab cake had too much filler for my liking but overall everything else was great!

Shrimp & Grits was amazing as well as the shrimp & crab potato. The best part of the whole experience was our waiter PJ! If you ever come here I would definitely recommend requesting him as your waiter. Very attentive & great personality and so much fun! I will for sure be coming back here when I come intown to visit family again.

We drove from Raleigh just to come have a Sunday early afternoon dinner. Such a comfortable family atmosphere restaurant. The portions of the food were a very nice size. And the view of the boats going by was awesome also. Great waiters great greeter at the front door. It's just a great place to go.

We drove 2.5 hours to eat. The best seafood around. The hostess, waiter and manager made the meal even better as we arrived 10 minutes before they closed, they still welcomed us in as if they were not getting ready to close. You won't find a better place to eat.

Ok havent ate here in quite a while.
We decided to give them a shot.... after not being here in years, the place has turned around.
Everything was great! Not sure if something has changed but our food was amazing.
We live here part time and definitely will be back.
