Old time cafe with plenty of Mayberry related artwork and menu items. Very busy let the service was fast and friendly. Nothing fancy. We had a burger and a BLT. Right on Main street, you may have to park a ways away.
We traveled to Mt. Airy just for the Mayberry experience. Decided to try Barney's Cafe for lunch. They were busy on a weekday and I presume they get a lot of travelers just because of the name. My husband ordered a cheeseburger, which he complained he could have made a better one at home. I ordered the hamburger steak with fries. Where I come from when you order a hamburger steak it comes with gravy over the steak and potatoes. What was on my plate was a plain hamburger patty and an order of french fries. This place is really sort of a dive. Nothing to get excited about and the food isn't very good at all.
Great southern food with welcoming staff. Must ask for pickles and chips if you want them. Had burger with pimento cheese - yum! We had lunch, but they also serve breakfast.
Best Breakfast for cheap! Yummy food-quick service! Breakfast special $7.50 2 eggs, meat, biscuits or toast, and a side! Lots of Mayberry nostalgia Friendly employees. They do lunch too!
Great place to eat-fast, friendly and in my opinion the hotdogs are much better than Odell’s!! Recommend highly!! 5 stars and the sweet girl working the counter gives A+ service with a smile!!
We got to the restaurant around 8:30 am it was seat yourself but all the tables that were open hadn't been cleaned from the previous customers so we sat at a table and waited for it to be cleaned, the waitress removed everything from the table but DID NOT wipe the table that was the first X, we got our drinks I take honey with my coffee it came out in a plastic cup that's ok but the honey had to be spooned out it was like dipping damp sugar and was grainy like sugar no honey taste at all second X, but not everyone uses honey so moving on, the home fries were from the freezer reminded me of freeze dried diced potatoes no taste third X and let's not forget the bacon it was so cold and chewy it was just plain nasty fourth X then the eggs were cooked perfectly but had to wait on the other egg one of the breakfast meals it comes with a certain number of eggs I did get the correct number of eggs so had to wait on the rest to come out the others got cold while we waited but as i said they were cooked perfectly then I realized that I had no bread so I asked and was told that was an add on and had to pay for a biscuit that didn't even melt the butter so use you on discretion about going, we did notice that the waitress was having bad day I guess not happy not sociable no you're welcome when thanked for refilling the drinks or when bringing other condiments, so all in all it was a bad experience but it was early so in didn't ruin the rest of our day, sorry this was a long drawn out review but I thought anyone who reads it can get the whole story, y'all be blessed, oh oh prices I thought were a little excessive but maybe they were trying to be like the vendors outside who knows
Barney’s is a Typical cafe/restaurant. The food is good, what makes it a 4 out of 5 are the people and the downtown home ambiance. We ate breakfast there two mornings in a row. Eggs, bologna, ( yes, fried bologna) home fries and toast. We really enjoyed the fried bologna, which was nostalgic us. I have not had fried bologna since I was a child. If you want to experience a local restaurant, try Barney’s Cafe.
Food was great and the homemade cakes were delicious!
Excellent food and fantastic service! Breakfast is one of our favorite meals... We travel a lot, and were absolutely delighted with such a wonderful breakfast at Barney's Cafe. Will definitely go back and would highly recommend! We had tenderloin, country ham and eggs, biscuits and gravy... Food was totally amazing! Don't miss this one! Best breakfast ever!
A cute diner in downtown Mt. Airy. No frills but good food…stopped for lunch… the bologna, club, hamburger sandwiches and kids corn dog and grilled cheese were good… as was the root beer float. It was busy but our waitress was attentive and our food served quickly and hot.

Service was excellent, food delicious and savory!! Very clean restroom, very nice atmosphere and we all had a wonderful day.
This is a neat little restaurant in Mayberry (well, Mt. Airy)! We had breakfast and the eggs, pancakes, sausage, and grits were really good. The biscuit was good, but cooler than what I would prefer. I didn’t say anything because it was good enough at the time. Their lunch looks good too and they also have ice cream. Certainly a good place for breakfast when in Mt. Airy. I can see this as the place where the locals eat regularly.
Great food. We had club sandwich, burgers, fries, and side salad. Everything tasted good. Staff did a good job quickly seating and attending to the customers.
Great food at a great price, stop here for breakfast to start your day when visiting Mt. Airy. Staff are friendly and refills as needed, very good food
We tried Barney’s first time in May with friends visiting from out of town. A busy restaurant, service was friendly, food was served hot and fast, oh yes and tasty! First visit I had the bacon cheeseburger, second visit this past week, the club sandwich. Yummy on both accounts with hot crispy French fries.
