First thing, get this straight. Kurbside Kitchen (Kurbside Bar & Grill) in Murfreesboro, NC actually WAS Walter's Grill since 1944 until just last year.Walter, born the year that the Titanic sank, ran the grill, until he was robbed and shot there in 1975. His wife Janet, carried on the restaurant until it was sold to Billy Theodorakos. Recently Chris Owens bought the restaurant changing the name. Walter's Grill, now known as Kurbside Kitchen in Murfreesboro, NC, has been a local institution since the 1940s. The restaurant has a rich history, with the original owner, Walter, running it until he was tragically shot in 1975. The grill was then taken over by Walter's wife, Janet, and later sold to Billy Theodorakos. Recently, Chris Owens became the new owner and changed the name to Kurbside Kitchen.
The restaurant has two sections: the original side with a counter and booths, serving classic hot dogs and burgers, and a newer side that resembles a sports bar. The food is excellent, with standouts such as the seafood special, flounder and shrimp, and the Mahi bang bang tacos. While service can be hit or miss, with orders coming out piecemeal at times, the food makes up for it. The restaurant is known for its awesome hot dog chili, which is meaty, delicious, and unique. The history of the town is also reflected in the booths and walls, making it a must-visit destination.
