Fast service. Plenty of food for price. Taste like homemade.

Selling gristle sandwiches at the Bluegrass Island festival with a half-hearted apology for their excuse for brisket. Yuck, do better.

This is a small BBQ establishment that most likely has a large take out business. There are about 6 tables inside for dining in. They did have an upper deck and outside dining.

I had the half rack of baby back ribs and they were amazing. Best ribs I've ever had. So tender and tasty!
My wife had the pork brisket Platter. It was also tender and full of flavor.
The cornbread was delicious. Every side we had was good. We'll be coming back to this little slice of heaven.

Our fam visits OBX every year, usually in September. I asked a friend who has been to the OBX more frequently, for a good lunch spot. He recommended this place, so we have it a shot!

Atmosphere was beach town vibes, outdoor seating at colorful picnic tables. Unfortunately the flies were EVERY WHERE, but it's early fall in a beach town (the server even apologized for the flies, but honestly, nothing she could do about it!). Bathrooms were around corner and "good enough", but I had to give the door a good shove so that it would close all the way and be able to lock. I went back to the table to finish eating but then my son could not get out, and had to bang on the door to get out. <-- we all had a good laugh about this once we left, LOL.

Service was super friendly, just 2 young smiling ladies happy to serve. Drinks & Food came out pretty quickly, and she checked on us a few times throughout our stay and kept our sweet tea full.

Food: So I ordered the brisket sandwich (which was with Carolina BBQ), and though the fat was delicious, I found the rest of it to be a little dry, so I asked for a side of their sweet barbecue sauce, that helped a little. The hush puppies & fries were both average (seriously, not bad, and they were good, but just average). I think they would have been better if maybe the fryer was cleaner or had fresh oil or something, as the hush puppies tasted a little fishy (but it's the OBX, a lot of seafood demand I guess). My son of course got the chicken tenders & fries, morning special, but he was stoked that his plate was a Frisbee that he gets to keep as a souvenir (excellent appeal for kids!).

That said... My wife & daughter ordered the pulled pork sandwiches and they both absolutely LOVED it! So I had a bite, and that did not disappoint, and I wish I had ordered that.

Summary: Order the Pulled Pork Sandwich!

First off, let me say, as soon as you pull up you’re thinking it’s going to be great. If you know anything about BBQ, it’s normally the places that aren’t fancy buildings that are the absolute best. Expectations were high and they absolutely didn’t disappoint! The service was phenomenal. I didn’t catch the young ladies name, but she gave recommendations when asked and was on point with everything! The brisket was amazing, super tender. The pulled pork, according to my wife, was absolutely delicious! The star of the show, though, was the hush puppies and BBQ sauce. Thankfully, they had two kinds, one being a vinegar base that my wife loves, and the more traditional kind. Both were out of this world. I only wish I had tried the Brussels sprouts ?. 10/10, would definitely eat again! Such an original experience!

At my most recent visit this summer, the ribs were super puny and come covered in sauce to try to make up for the cook and the lack of meat. My fried shrimp came out literally cold. The hush puppies and other fried items we got were decent, but overall I feel like the quality of the food at this place has gone down over the years. And on top of this our food took 45 mins to arrive when they only had a few other tables at the same time. I don’t think I’ll be visiting Sooey’s again and sorry to say I can’t recommend.

The woman with the piercings working the front was so very kind and welcoming. The food itself… absolutely impeccable. Never had a pulled pork sandwich that makes me wanna commit a crime, until now. The burnt end sandwich will make you wanna do some heinous things. Overall definitely gonna make this a yearly tradition.

Loved it! Everything about this place is awesome. Food and especially the service couldn't be better. Highly recommend the brisket and potato salad. This location is across the street from Jockey's Ridge which is great. The frisbee included with the kids meals came in handy after lunch :)

Sooey's is a great little place with good NC-style BBQ with good portions and reasonable prices. I came in with a complicated to-go order for several people, and the friendly staff helped me get everything in order. Lot's of happy, smiling faces that day! The pulled pork, chopped chicken and the ribs were stand-out favorites for our group. A good, easy, tasty meal when you're tight for time or don't want to spend a lot of money.

Really poor-quality food here to cater for tourists. If you like proper bbq you will be badly disappointed in the cheap microwaved meats. There’s not a huge choice around this area, so lower your expectations. Nothing North Carolina about it, it’s the usual chain style rubbish. $30 for a platter and not a single side of sauce, and forgot my collards. Banana pudding as low effort as the rest of it. Sure kids love the place! But it isn’t even close to proper bbq

Got take out. Ribs were tough and difficult to pull apart. Brisket was dry and chewy. Food was cold. Not sure how long it was ready for but I got there about 10 min before my pickup time and it was already out and only a 5 min drive back to home, should've been hot still.
