This is one of my favorite places to eat when we visit Nags Head, NC. It's the most affordable place to eat for a family of four. The hush puppies are sooo good. My family has eating at The Dunes for breakfast and dinner on several occasions. There can be a little wait sometimes and they have a nice accommodating area for you to wait without feeling cramped. The restrooms are clean. The staff has always been the most hospitable. The food is delicious and, again, very affordable.
It will be hard to find better food in the OBX. I had the broiled bounty of the sea and my wife had the seven sisters platter. Both provided a substantial portion of food, cooked well, served hot, and very tasty. We finished with the best peanutbutter pie we have ever had; light and flavorful. Our waitress gave excellent food recommendations and served us well. The atmosphere is perfect. The art on the walls is for sale at reasonable prices and made us think of the beach, sand...
I really want to give The Dunes five stars, but it just doesn’t quite get there. The food is very good and the service (A Rod has been our server the past three years) is fantastic. But the main hostess isn’t super friendly and the layout isn’t immediately welcoming. The menu isn’t big, but seems to offer a good many wonderful dishes and enough mix and match combinations that you feel like you can find something different to eat each time.
