Reservations are hard to make due to limited operating hours and a constantly busy phone line. Lead hostess wasn’t friendly at all.
After waiting 75+ minutes for our food to be delivered, my lobster arrived cold. It was remade and replaced with a nice, hot one. Three medium steaks arrived quite undercooked; one was VERY rare (even after we sent it back; the next one came out with large rare spots). The steaks were also unevenly cooked in general. I suspect they are cooked directly from frozen.
Our server was sweet but very overwhelmed. The kitchen was very backed up and kept messing up our orders, which had no modifications other than how we wanted our steak cooked. The manager was defensive about the steak temps, even when the rare steak was right in front of her. She did, however, remedy the situation. Still, one shouldn’t have to plead their case when the evidence is right there.
I do not recommended coming here for entrees. The price point does not reflect the execution or quality of customer service (with exception of our kind server). It took almost 2.5 hours to get in and out for a party of 5. Our meals, which were not complex, just could not be prepared correctly. I’d say if you go, just order a drink and appetizer.
We've gone several times over the past two years and won't be going back. They are impossible to call for reservations and the service is miserable. During our last visit on 6/10 our drinks and appetizer came out with our meal after waiting 30 minutes - with no one checking in on us once, and then the order was missing half the food because the waitress didn't order it. We ordered a lobster tail with the filet that wasn't ordered so it came out after the filet was finished and no melted butter was included. No one came by again so we could ask for it either... There was no manager present and no one came over to fix the situation other than our waitress. The waitress removed the lobster tail and one drink but it wasn't even the drink that was incorrect so she had to re-do the check a third time.
Very good music a little quiet outside seating good
Gorgeous oceanfront views, outstanding seafood (the crab cakes are unforgettable), and attentive staff—Island Way is a true crown jewel of Oak Island. I run electric‑bike tours (Cycle‑logical Tours) and would love to explore a partnership to bring more riders your way. Let’s talk!
Above and beyond service. *The* location for a high-class fine-dining experience. Prices are high, portions are small, and water is infinite.
Luke P. Was our waiter and he was outstanding he provided excellent service recommendations and made the atmosphere even more enjoyable. Highly highly recommend we’ve been here almost two weeks eaten out every night and this was the best service and food we’ve had yet!
My girlfriend and I came here expecting a nice fine dining experience but unfortunately it did not live up to the label.
We both ordered the chicken alfredo. I got it with penne and she got it with linguine. The noodles and the sauce tasted like Kraft and had no seasoning. Salt and pepper is a must. The chicken in the alfredo was actually good and seasoned well so I am not really sure what happened to the sauce.
We also tried the spinach dip. It was beyond mediocre but the little chips that came with it were thin and tasty.
The bread and butter they bring out was probably the best thing they have. Fresh and flavorful.
Overall it felt like overpriced average food on the beach. It says fine dining but it is really just mid. I do not think I would come back. Also the place was filled with flies. Couldn’t enjoy the meal without swatting several times.
Our table of eight had a wide variety of dishes, including shrimp and grits, tiger shrimp, crab cakes, salads, flounder and lobster ravioli. Each met expectations and beyond. Our server was hospitable, professional, and responsive to our every question. We have been coming to Oak Island for decades, and Island Way never fails to deliver excellence.
Excellent dining! Must haves: grilled shrimp, scallops, she crab soup and the lemon drop martinis are sooooo good!! Wonderful service and nice views!

Rating based on the rude hostess. When you walk into an upscale restaurant you should feel welcome, not like you’re a bother. People take precedence over phone calls.

Our server, Noah, was amazing! They were definitely short staffed but he was hustling and made sure to meet our needs! He was friendly and kind and attentive. Our food was delicious, steaks cooked to order and desserts delicious. As a server, I know the stresses of others calling out so I appreciate his attentiveness to all of his tables, including my parents and brother and I. Thank you for a great dinner, Noah!
