My husband and I ordered take out. We found the menu very inviting with multiple items. We were on our annual vacation and visited Island Way for the very first time. Honestly, the food was terrible. Everything appeared to be frozen, food heated up, not fresh and absolutely bland. We spent over $100 between the 2 of us because we wanted to try multiple items. Next time we will find a restaurant off the island. My son is in the food industry and I know what good quality should taste like. It is really unfortunate. Hoping this may inspire the restaurant to take a look at their items and make some changes for the better.

We are visiting Oak Island from Maryland and decided to go to Island Way restaurant from a recommendation. I am so glad we did. The hostess was very pleasant and seated us right away. But I would highly recommend reservations or get there when they first open which we did. The restaurant filled up quickly with others waiting. The atmosphere was a couple of steps above most of the restaurants around here. The tables were very clean and lots of room around the tables. Our server was Dink B. he came to our table right away and took our drink order which came right away. He was more than pleasant and very personal and accommodating. Told us all about the menu then proceeded with the specials for the evening. He told us to take our time and would be back in a few minutes to take our order. I got the special rib eye steak with peppercorn cream sauce and my boyfriend got the broiled seafood platter. The steak was cooked to perfection and was tender and juicy. It was the best steak I have ever had in my life. My boyfriend said the seafood platter was excellent and would defiantly get it again. Dink came right back to our table and filled our glasses and asked how our meal was and if we needed anything. He did that several times. I think he should be praised by the restaurant owner for his outstanding service. We will definitely be back when we visit again. Thank you Dink.

I ordered the seafood platter and the scallops had an ammonia smell ,the flounder if i put laces on them I could wear them as shoes and the oysters were greasy,the shrimp was decent and the fries were cold and tough,I didn't want to make a scene will with a large party ,got me this time never again

It was the worst time. 12 ladies went to celebrate my grandmother's 84th birthday. The table behind us was so loud we couldn't hear each other yet along a waiter that cant walk to the back of the table because the layout. Terrible

I haven’t been to OKI in over a decade, so I had no idea whatsoever where to go. Luckily google has Island Way on the top of the list and let me tell you it did not disappoint. My server was great and both the cocktails and food were out of this world. I went in at 5pm on a Wednesday so my entree was technically “happy hour”, but even if it wasn’t the prices are very fair for the high end service and very fresh local seafood. The kitchen was fast but thorough and the bartenders were clearly quite knowledgeable. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting (although i’m sure everyone knows about it - they’re very busy and highly recommend reservations due to high volume). I plan to visit again!

I want to start this review by saying that our server was absolutely fantastic. This is in no way a reflection of him. Unfortunately, the food was another story. The only dishes we found even remotely enjoyable were our appetizers, the beef canapés and fried pickles.
Out of our party of five, every single entrée was disappointing. Typically, at least one or two meals stand out as decent, but that was not the case here. One member ordered the filet and lobster, and both were severely overcooked. The lobster was so tough that if you threw it at a wall, it could have bounced back. Two of us ordered the “flown in from Hawaii” ahi tuna, which was bland, lacked seasoning, and was not prepared properly. The Brussels sprouts were equally flavorless. The last two members ordered shrimp and grits, which arrived cold, and the shrimp were overcooked as well.
Honestly, the price point was reasonable, but the execution and quality of the food were terrible. This experience was extremely disappointing, especially given that we have dined here in the past and the food, while never five-star, was at least solid. Sadly, what we had last night was far from that standard, or the standard of any restaurant.

Had several good meals here but for last night. All of our meals were mediocre at best. Had two orders of the sashimi tuna and they were overcooked (should have just been seared) and were served medium. The grill must have not been hot enough and they arrived a pale grey color (so unappetizing).The Brussels sprouts had absolutely no flavor and we couldn’t figure out if they were boiled. The filet was tough and over cooked. Ordered medium rare and came medium well. The lobster tail was rubbery. Ordered two shrimp and grits and the shrimp were tough and unfortunately only served lukewarm. So disappointed. We were underwhelmed. We have now crossed Island Way off our list.
Terrible service. Waited over 1 hour on a Monday at 5pm, no food. Ended up walking out. Management terrible. Try anywhere else

Our family was on vacay in Oak Island and wanted to try out some of the local restaurants. I’ll sum this up quickly…this was by far one of the best restaurants we have ever been too. We were a party of 9 with a 8pm reservation. Teddy our server was one of the best servers we have ever had. He was extremely tentative and was very professional and made the experience that much better. The food was out of this world including dessert. If you are visiting Oak Island please do yourself a favor and try this spot out. A+++++
