Allen & Son's knows what it's doing -- no frills, simple menu, and incredible barbecue. We got the barbecue plate with barbecue pork, hush puppies, fries, and baked beans. The bean was classic NC vinegar BBQ - succulent and delicious. The hush puppies had a touch of sweetness. The beans were were appropriately sweet and complemented the vinegary flavor of the meat.

Look at the outside pictures here. Do you think the inside is clean? You can see dirt even standing in the front. You are gambling with salmonilla here and the employees seem to hate thier life. When noone wants to work there and the help wanted sign is 10 years old, you get an idea of what its like here.I was hungry and so i tried it, tastes ok if you like tons of vinegar. Still would not reccomend this food, you will get fat, and likely develop heart disease.Make sure to pray twice. Once for food poisoning, and again for merging onto the highway blind.Tldr: trash food that will make you fat, sick. Tastes ok.Parking: people park on the side of the highway blocking your view of traffic. i cant believe its legal to have this setup. Good luck!

I regularly went to the original location off rte 86. It was by far the best pulled pork in the area as it was slow smoked over split hickory. So when I saw the same name on a joint on the 1 near Pittsboro, I had to check it out.Seems that James Allen sold this location to the Stubbs family when he retired and Stubbs & Son has been operating it since.I ordered what I usually did at Allen & Son in Chapel Hill: a BBQ sandwich and Yankee tea ( unsweet tea ). It was good. Solid smoky base and classic eastern vinegar sauce. Naturally I got coleslaw on it seems mandatory to me nowThe sandwich was very good. Generous serving on a soft bun. I also ordered baked beans which were excellent. The iced tea was welcome on a warm day.The restaurant gets very busy at lunchtime, so plan accordingly. I recommend this location.
Easily the best BBQ in NC. Consistent high quality BBQ and the fries, hush puppies, and burgers are the best I've ever had.
