We ate here for our anniversary and really enjoyed it! We made reservations for 2 at the bar because all the table reservations before 9 pm were full, but when we arrived, a table was open and offered to us, which was really nice! (LIkely, we also would have been happy at the bar, but I'm pregnant, so the comfy booth seat was welcome.) The service was superlative, both from our attentive server and others who jumped in any time they walked by and saw something that could be done. The non-alcoholic cocktail was fantastic! Both food and drink menus are curated rather than extensive. We are parents of a small child who rarely get out to restaurants, so when we do go, we love to taste a variety of options on the menu. Your ordering style may vary. For starters, we ordered the yellowfin crudo (a standout and possibly the best dish from my perspective) and crispy porcelet belly (very tasty, although the skin was more tough and chewy than crispy). The manchego-herb biscuits were amazing in taste and texture, like, how do they do that? For entrees, we had the lamb loin and bavette steak. My lamb was nice, but the flavor of the steak dish (my husband's) was unreal. (Normally, I would have ordered the seafood, but the only option was swordfish, and I had already used up my weekly serving of potentially-high-in-mercury seafood with the yellowfin crudo, worth it!) After sharing two appetizers, biscuits, and an entree each, we were really full. However, I had been anticipating the triple cheesecake with rhubarb, so we got a portion to go. It was unusual - very strong on the savory cheese flavor in the cake - but we both really liked it. (Would I have liked more rhubarb? Yes, but I love rhubarb, and not everyone agrees. Rhubarb skeptics, this is a safe dish for you.) Two starters, two entrees, a side, two drinks each, and one dessert put our total just north of $200. Not a huge consideration for us, but it's a small-ish space with dark decor and modern, minimal lighting. I've spoken with others who remembered it as a bit cramped. The music is... not quiet... with prominent bass, but we sat next to each other and were able to talk. We definitely plan to go back. Edited to add: We were also really impressed by the short ticket times! Our food came out very promptly, and we finished three courses and had our take-out dessert ready to go in just over an hour. We also didn't feel rushed, as though we could have lingered without any pressure from the server to free up the table. As folks who no longer get out much, that's a huge plus.

We live in the neighborhood, read many reviews and had high expectations. It was our 25th wedding anniversary and finally got around to making reservations to give it a go. Service was fine, atmosphere is inviting but the food was disappointing to say the least. We tried the biscuits and they are very dry and hard. For the main, I had the swordfish and my wife had the steak. The fish was just ok but the steak tasted like kerosene. We should of saved our $200 and gone next door to Pizza Box to get a quality meal.

There's a reason Scott Crawford is a five-time James Beard semi-finalist, and it shows. Crawford and Son easily competes with some the best showstoppers competing for recognition in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Contemporary, clean, elegant and refined no dish was disappointing. Service was excellent. Even the timing of the dishes coming out of the kitchen was perfect. I would easily visit his small bistro Jolie (next door) upon another visit to Raleigh.

Almost 5 stars, just one big misstep...the duck skin.Service: excellent. Very helpful and attentive.Location: Interesting. Plain looking outside, but great deco inside. Good lighting and atmosphere.Food: (most important) Got the beef tartar and it was amazing. (mix together before eating) Traditional tartar is served with toast points, but this uses puffed grain mixed in to give the crunch and it works. Main was the trout. Very good. Crisp skin. Amazing flavor. Guest got the duck. Such a difficult dish to pull off correctly and unfortunately they didn't. The meat itself was perfectly cooked, but the skin/fat wasn't rendered, which resulted in soft skin. Ended up having to pull it all off just to enjoy the dish. The sides on all dishes were very good. We got one of each of the deserts and each party member liked a different one. All were good in their own right.Parking: Good luck with parking. Had to circle the block several times and finally found one about a block away.

Visited this restaurant for a date night and we absolutely loved it! The Beef rib cavatelli and Yellowfin tuna crudo were to die for. Only thing I’d wish is that they’d have more cocktails on their drinks menu but the bartender was really sweet and made us whatever we asked for so absolutely no complaints! We will definitely be back.

Valentine's Warm-Up that Exceeded Expectations at Crawford & Son! (5 Stars)While technically not Valentine's Day yet, my hubby and I decided to celebrate early with a pre-holiday dinner at Crawford & Son. Seated comfortably at the bar, we were immediately greeted by the warm and friendly Ray, who set the tone for the entire evening. They expertly guided us through the menu, offering insightful recommendations and answering our questions with genuine enthusiasm. But let's get to the real stars of the show: the food! Beef Tartare is an absolute must-order! Also, the scallops were divine. Perfectly seared with a crisp caramelized crust, they melted in our mouths like buttery clouds. The accompanying sweet potato galette was a revelation - perfectly balanced between savory and sweet. But the true MVP was the cauliflower side. Roasted to perfection, it had a wonderful smoky depth and retained a delightful al dente texture. We couldn't stop raving about it!And then there was Jordan. Throughout the evening, he provided exemplary service with a smile that could light up the room. He was attentive to our needs without being intrusive, offering suggestions and ensuring our glasses were never empty. His genuine warmth and friendly demeanor made us feel like valued guests, not just another table. From the outstanding food to the exceptional service, our pre-Valentine's dinner at Crawford & Son was an absolute delight. Ray and Jordan truly went above and beyond, making it an unforgettable experience. We'll definitely be back soon, not just for Valentine's Day, but for any occasion that deserves a touch of culinary magic and genuine hospitality. Thank you, Crawford & Son, for setting the bar high!P.S. Don't miss the scallops, sweet potato galette, and crispy cauliflower - they're worth the visit alone!

Went for a date night and was not disappointed! We had the duck breast and the short ribs and split the crispy cauliflower. Everything was delicious! Not a bad wine and bourbon list, was really surprised to see Blanton's Gold on it. Prices are a touch high, but worth it for a celebration or special occasion. We'll be back for sure.

Great Service. Excellent food! When a waitress on her way from a table stops what she’s doing to welcome you in, you know you’re in for some good service. The meal was excellent from start to finish. The trout was prepared perfectly and seasons. The short ribs were tender and seasoned to perfection. Highly recommend the grilled prawns, which feels like an upscale take on shrimp and grits.

Food was impeccable. I would skip the cocktails as you're basically getting a mammoth ice cube and little actual alcohol. That said, the trout with the salsa Verde and squash was divine. The duck was perfectly done... and the steak tartare was unreal. Never had one like this one... crispy forbidden rice puncturing the dish.. a gorgeous egg yolk that might have been pickled for a flash... altogether the most intriguing steak tartare ever.Cannot wait for Crawford to open the Croatian-Italian restaurant in March or the subterranean bar next door shortly! Well done y'all!

Excellent restaurant, the food and service are top notch. Very reasonable prices for the quality and service. In terms of preference, Crawford and Sons is second only to Crawford's other restaurant Jolee. Highly recommend!

Our experience at Crawford and Son was flawless- everything was a step above and we were blown away by the incredible and unique tastes of the food that we enjoyed! We were so warmly greeted by Kat, and the service from our server, Carrie, was wonderful as well! The atmosphere was fun and classy and it made for the perfect birthday dinner date. We absolutely loved the apple and daikon salad, grilled clam toast, duck breast, and the Videri brownie sundae. Thank you so much to the entire team at Crawford and Son for creating such an amazing dining experience, we can't wait to come back!
